JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE - WHAT GOES AROUND (2007) hit #1
What Goes Around... Comes Around" (known as "What
Goes Around.../...Comes Around (Interlude)" on the album
version) is a song by American singer-songwriter
Justin Timberlake. It was written and produced by
Timberlake,
Nate "Danja" Hills, and
Timothy "Timbaland" Mosley for Timberlake's second
studio album,
FutureSex/LoveSounds (2006). The song was said by
Timberlake to be about betrayal and forgiveness, and was
described by some music critics as a "sequel" to his 2002
single "Cry
Me a River". The song received generally positive
reviews from music critics.
The song was sent to
United States radio on January 8, 2007, as the album's
third single. It became Timberlake's third consecutive
number one hit on the
Billboard Hot 100. Internationally the song was
also successful, reaching the top ten in countries such as
the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, Germany, and
Australia. The song was later certified two-times
platinum in Australia,
platinum in the United States and
gold in New Zealand. The song received positive reviews
from music critics. The song won
Best Male Pop Vocal Performance at the
50th Grammy Awards, where it also received a nomination
for
Record of the Year.
What Goes Around.../...Comes Around" became Timberlake's third
consecutive number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 from his
Futuresex/Lovesounds album, becoming the first male artist since
Usher in 2004 to have three or more consecutive number-one hits from
one album.
The single charted on Hot 100 for 25 weeks.
"What Goes Around.../...Comes Around" was certified platinum by the
Recording Industry Association of America on June 7, 2007, and had
by September 3, 2010 passed the two million sales plateau, with sales of
2,004,000
NELLY FURTADO - SAY IT RIGHT (2007) hit #1
Say It Right" is a
pop song by Canadian recording artist
Nelly Furtado, from her third studio album,
Loose (2006). Written by Furtado,
Tim "Timbaland" Mosley and
Nate "Danja" Hills, the song was inspired by, as Furtado
described it, the "spooky, keyboard-driven pop sound" of the
band
Eurythmics, specifically their 1983 song titled, "Here
Comes the Rain Again". The song released as the album's
third
single in North America and Australia (see
2006 in music). The song served as the album's fourth
single in certain European and Asian countries. It was
released digitally in the United Kingdom in March 2007. It
was the album's fifth single in
Latin America.
In the United States, the song was made available for airplay at
mainstream
contemporary hit radio stations on October 30, 2006.
Geffen Records withdrew from radio the second single from Loose,
"Maneater",
before promoting "Say It Right".
The song debuted on the
Billboard
Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart at number twenty-two in the
issue dated November 18.
It entered the
Billboard Hot 100 in late-November at number ninety-three,
and it reached number one in its fourteenth week, becoming Furtado's
second number-one single after "Promiscuous"
(2006).
The song stayed at number one for one week, in the top ten for fourteen
weeks and on the Hot 100 for thirty weeks.
"Say It Right" contributed to sales of the album Loose, and was
credited as being responsible for its return to the top ten on the U.S.
Billboard 200.
According to
Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems, "Say It Right" was the second
most-played song on U.S. radio in 2007 with 364,000 plays through
December 2,
and it was at number four on
R&R magazine's 2007 year-end all-format top 100 songs list.
On the Billboard Hot 100 year-end chart, it was ranked ninth.
The RIAA certified "Say It Right" platinum in December 2007.
"Say It Right" peaked at number one for ten weeks on the Canadian
BDS Airplay Chart, which it entered in early December
becoming Furtado's third Canadian number-one single.
According to BDS, it was the fourth most-played song of 2007 on Canadian
radio, amassing around 56,900 detections.
The song charted on the BDS Airplay Chart for sixty-two weeks.
Nobody's Perfect is a song with the length of three minutes
and twenty seconds. The song is written in the key of
C-minor with Cyrus'/Hannah Montana's vocal spanning two
octaves from C4 to D5. Written by
former Hannah Montana collaborators,
Matthew Gerrard and
Robbie Nevil, the song talks about how no one is perfect
and it's okay to make mistakes. It was first featured on the
special edition of
Hannah Montana, then served as the first single for
Hannah Montana 2. The live performance featured on
the Hannah Montana special edition soundtrack is the
music video for this song and is featured as such on the
official Hannah Montana
Vevo on
YouTube. Within the Hannah Montana storyline,
"Nobody's Perfect" was written by Miley Stewart's father
Robby. The song is first heard in the episode "Get Down,
Study-udy-udy" (204) where Miley reworks the song into the
"Bone Dance" as a way of helping her study for a biology
mid-term exam. The song is praised by the
Jonas Brothers in the episode
Me and Mr. Jonas and Mr. Jonas and Mr. Jonas (217), with
Kevin calling it "genius."
The song debuted at no. 27 on the
Hot 100 after a high debut of no. 14 on
Hot Digital Songs. It also reached no. 25 on the now
defunct
Pop 100.
Hannah Montana is an American
television series, which debuted on March 24, 2006 on the
Disney Channel. The series focuses on a girl who lives a
double life as an average teenage school girl named
Miley Stewart (played by
Miley Cyrus) by day and a famous pop singer named
Hannah Montana by night, concealing her real identity
from the public, other than her close friends and family.
This album was the fourth consecutive Foo Fighters album to
have a song reach the top of the U.S.
Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart. "The Pretender" was the
most densely played alternative rock song of 2007. It holds
the record for longest running number 1 in the Modern Rock
Tracks' history, with 18 weeks at number 1.
It also spent 6 weeks at number 1 on the
Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. It made the
Triple J's Hottest 100 in Australia placing in at number
5.
Foo Fighters is an American
alternative rock band formed in
Seattle
in 1994. It was founded by
Nirvana drummer
Dave Grohl as a one-man project following the death of
Kurt Cobain and the resulting dissolution of his previous band. The
group got its name from the UFOs and various aerial phenomena that were
reported by Allied aircraft pilots in World War II, which were known
collectively as
foo fighters.
KT TUNSTALL - SUDDENLY I SEE (2007) hit #21
Suddenly I See" is a song by Scottish
singer-songwriter
KT Tunstall and is featured on her debut album,
Eye to the Telescope. It was released on 29 August
2005 as the third single (second single in
United States) from the album, charting at #12 in the
UK Singles Chart (see
2005 in British music). The single was a hit in
Australia where it charted at #6 on the ARIA Singles
Chart. It was also certified gold by ARIA for sales of
35,000 copies.
The song was Tunstall's highest charting in
the
United Kingdom, and spent 26 weeks in the Top 75
Singles. "Suddenly I See" won her an
Ivor Novello Award in 2006 in the category of Best Song
Musically and Lyrically. It is inspired by New York singer
and poet
Patti Smith, whose album cover for
Horses also inspired Tunstall's album cover for
Eye to the Telescope.
LoveStoned" (known as "LoveStoned/I Think She
Knows (Interlude)" on the album version) is a song by
American singer-songwriter
Justin Timberlake from his second studio album,
FutureSex/LoveSounds (2006). It was released on June
14, 2007, by
Jive Records as the fourth single from the album. The
song was co-written and produced by Timberlake,
Timbaland, and
Nate "Danja" Hills.
In contrast to the album's theme
about sexual innuendos with themes of love, "LoveStoned"
contains sexually suggestive lyrics. Musically "LoveStoned"
is an upbeat dance song, contrasting with the interlude of
"I Think She Knows" which has a more slow, quiet,
guitar-driven sound. The song includes a
string section. "LoveStoned/I Think She Knows" was well
received by music critics, who noted the track's general
sound and lyrics.
The track entered the top ten on most charts, topping
several of
Billboard magazine's component charts, including the
number one spot on the
Hot Dance Club Play and
Hot Dance Airplay charts, respectively. The
international chart performance of the single failed to
match its domestic success, never reaching the top spot.
Following the release, "LoveStoned/I Think She Knows" was
downloaded 39,000 times on
iTunes. The song won
Best Dance Recording at the
2008 Grammy Awards. The single has been widely
sampled, with different
covers and
sounds.
In North America, the single was officially solicited to radio in
June 2007. "LoveStoned" appeared on the
Billboard Hot 100, and debuted at number 17, the same result
in the
Hot Digital Songs chart. It appeared on Billboard's
Pop 100
in the number seven position. "LoveStoned/I Think She Knows" reached the
number one spot on Billboard's
Hot Dance Club Play and
Hot Dance Airplay. Upon release, "LoveStoned/I Think She Knows"
was downloaded 39,000 times on
iTunes
AVRIL LAVIGNE - GIRLFRIEND (2007) hit #1
Girlfriend" is a song by Canadian singer-songwriter
Avril Lavigne. The song was written by Lavigne with her
producer
Dr. Luke for Lavigne's third studio album,
The Best Damn Thing (2007). "Girlfriend" was
released as the
lead single from The Best Damn Thing on 27
February 2007. Lyrically, the song revolves around its
protagonist having a crush on someone who is in a
relationship, proclaiming she should be his girlfriend. The
song has been noted to have similarities to
Toni Basil's 1982 single "Mickey",
and
The Rubinoos' 1979 single "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend".
The songwriters of "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" sued Lavigne
and Dr. Luke for copyright infringement; the suit was later
settled.
"Girlfriend" received generally positive reviews
from music critics, who complimented its catchiness. The
song was a worldwide success, peaking at the top spot of the
charts in eight countries, including Canada, the United
States, and Australia. It additionally charted in the top
ten of most other countries. The song's accompanying music
video, directed by
The Malloys sees Lavigne portraying three alter-egos,
with all of them fighting over the same guy. In June 2007,
the song's official remix, featuring American rapper
Lil Mama was released. Lavigne performed the song a
number of times, including at the 2007
MuchMusic Video Awards, the 2007
Teen Choice Awards, and the 2008
Juno Awards.
The song's success made it a mainstay of pop music in the
late 2000s. "Girlfriend" was certified multi-platinum in
Australia and the United States. It was the top-selling song
of 2007, with over 7.3 million worldwide sales. In 2008, the
song became the most viewed video on YouTube, and was the
first video on the site to reach 100 million views.
Rolling Stone ranked the song number thirty-seven on
their list of "Top 100 Songs of 2007" list. Several versions
of the song were released with the chorus sung in multiple
languages. In 2010, the song was named the ninety-fourth
most successful song on the Hot 100 in the 2000s decade.
Allmusic highlighted the song as one of the most
significant
punk-pop songs of all time

it in the top 10 peaking at #8.
It had a very successful release in Canada making it at
number 2.
The song has also entered the top 10 in other European
countries. The single's success has made Feist famous
globally and it has boosted the remaining sales. It also
managed to debut at number 67 on the Australian
ARIA Singles Chart, as digital tracks were added from
the 5th of November 2007 to the singles chart in Australia.
It later entered the top 50 of the chart in late December,
and has thus far peaked at #36. It also ranked #34 in the
Triple J Hottest 100, and #1 on Amazon.com's Top-selling
Songs of 2007.
Time magazine named "1234" one of The 10 Best Songs
of 2007, ranking it at #2 after "Rehab" by Amy Winehouse.

exuberance that's all her own."
FERGIE - BIG GIRLS DONT CRY (2007) hit #1
Big Girls Don't Cry" is a song performed by American
recording artist
Fergie for her first studio album
The Dutchess (2006). It was written by Fergie and
Toby Gad while the production was helmed by
will.i.am. The song was released as the fourth single
from the album on January 19, 2008. "Big Girls Don't Cry"
deviates from the
hip-hop and
urban music of Fergie's previous singles and opts for a
more simplistic pop sound that incorporates
acoustic and
classical elements. It features credits from about
thirty instrumentalists, many of which play the
violas,
violins and
celli on the track. It is one of the few songs on the
album that does not sample any other songs. The critical
reception of "Big Girls Don't Cry" was positive, with many
praising the maturity and simplicity display on the single
as well as the message.
"Big Girls Don't Cry" was a
commercial success domestically, attaining the top position
on the
Billboard Hot 100. It became her third single to
do so and earned her the accolade of being the first artist
with three number one singles from one album since 2000 with
Christina Aguilera's first three number one singles.
"Big Girls Don't Cry" also became Fergie's highest selling
single in the country with 3.5 million units sold and her
longest charting with nearly fifty weeks logged on the Hot
100 between May 2007 and March 2008. The song peaked at
number one in Canada and was present for fifty-three weeks
on the chart. The song also reached number one in various
international territories including Denmark, Ireland, New
Zealand, Norway and Australia, where it spent nine weeks at
the top position. Besides France and Hungary, "Big Girls
Don't Cry" reached the top ten in all other international
markets like the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland and the
United Kingdom.
After twelve weeks of fluctuating in the top five, the song reached
the summit of the Hot 100 on the week of September 8, 2007, replacing
Sean Kingston's "Beautiful
Girls". The song became Fergie's third number one single in the
United States as a solo artist as well as the fourth top five single
from The Dutchess album. The song earned her the accolade of
being the first female artist to attain three number one US singles from

single "Come
On Over Baby (All I Want Is You)" from her
eponymous debut album

charting in the US prior to its official release date, appearing on the
January 20, 2007 issue of the
Billboard Hot 100. "Candyman" peaked at #25 in its seventh

This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race" is a song by
American
rock band
Fall Out Boy and the
lead single from their commercially successful fourth
studio album
Infinity on High (2007).
The song was first played on September 30, 2006 at a
Philadelphia radio station,
102.1, and leaked onto the internet soon after It was officially debuted on
November 21 at the
American Music Awards and was shipped to radio stations
that night (with an impact date of December 5 in the
United States). The music was composed by vocalist and
guitarist
Patrick Stump and the lyrics were penned by bassist
Pete Wentz, following the band's songwriting approach
which first began with some songs on their 2003 effort
Take This to Your Grave. Production was handled by
Neal Avron, who also produced the band's previous
From Under the Cork Tree album. Commenting on the
band's decision to pick the track as the first single, Wentz
said "There may be other songs on the record that would be
bigger radio hits, but this one had the right message."
The track was a commercial success and the band's worldwide
breakthrough. "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race"
debuted and peaked at No. 2 on the US
Billboard Hot 100 with 162,000 sales and broke
various records. It is the group's first single to chart
worldwide in countries (besides the UK) including Australia,
New Zealand and most of the European nations, where it
reached the top five in many.
The website that bassist Pete Wentz promotes,
FriendsorEnemies.com, made "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms
Race" available to the internet community on November 17,
just after its radio debut in Indianapolis.
The single was released as a
CD single,
digital download and also as a
7" blue vinyl and 7" purple vinyl. The
B-sides, "G.I.N.A.S.F.S." and "It's Hard To Say "I Do",
When I Don't", were released as bonus tracks from

were included as bonus songs on the deluxe editions of the
album. There is an official remix featuring
Kanye West which the band tried to rush onto Infinity
on High but was unable to do so due to time constraints.
Despite the song's commercial success, critical reception
was mixed. It was ranked No. 49 on
Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Best Songs of 2007.
Maroon 5 performed the song in May 2007 on
The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
The song has had one of the biggest bullets in Hot Adult
history, with many AC radio stations putting it into heavy
rotation mere days after its release. The song reached
number 11 on the U.S.
Adult Top 40 after only two weeks on the chart, becoming

Adult Top 40 in two weeks or less.
In the Billboard magazine issue dated May 12, 2007, Maroon
5 scored their first number-one on the
Billboard Hot 100, due to strong radio airplay
and 243,500
digital downloads. By doing so, they broke a record held
by
Kelly Clarkson's "A
Moment Like This" for the biggest jump to number one in
Hot 100 history, leaping from number 64 to number one

2002).
"Makes Me Wonder" remained at number one for a second week
before falling to number two
and then returning to number one in the following week.

You Remind Me". The song reached number one again on
June 2. As of September 2011, it has sold over 2,621,000

KATHARINE MCPHEE - OVER IT (2007) hit #29
Over It" is the first single released from the
eponymous album by
Katharine McPhee, the
American Idol
season five (2006) finalist. The song was reportedly
described by McPhee as "the only real pop song on the
record" and as being "a very sultry song about young love".
The song was produced by
Billy Steinberg and Josh Alexander, and written by
Alexander, Steinberg and
Ruth-Anne Cunningham, the writers of
JoJo's "Too
Little Too Late". The song is available for listening

something that [she] was a part of."
In the song, McPhee
sings over a sultry beat driven by acoustic guitars about
letting go of the person one loves because one does not
share the same feeling. The narrator complains about how

Wait a Minute" is a song from the

the single was pushed back. In addition, the single was set
to be released only in North America, but with the success
of "I Don't Need a Man", the single was also released
internationally.
Promotional singles were officially sent
out to American and Canadian radios on October 17, 2006;

24, 2007 in Australia.
"Wait a Minute" became the group's fifth entry on US
Billboard Hot 100. Promotional singles were
released and the song was featured in Best Buy
advertisements in the US but a full CD was never released,
which may have led to its low peak position of number
twenty-eight. However the single achieved a slightly higher
peak position on the Billboard
Pop 100, peaking at number twenty-three. Shortly after
its release in the U.S., it was released on February 24,
2007, in Australia and in March in Germany, where a
