DISCUSSION TOPICS OF INTEREST - RELATING TO REEL-TO-REEL'S

Let's talk about reel to reel's - what do you know about them - please send me an email at hoknes@hotmail.com and let's talk about these

Some of my favorite topics are about what is actually out there, why were they made?

Does anyone have any columbia house flyers or monthly catalogs ?   These would be great to see and get scanned and posted on here!

I also like to discuss potential sales - what was the cost of these in stores back then?   What did it cost to buy a reel to reel player?

When did stores last carry players or individual reels for sale?

For some reason solo-Beatles albums on Apple were stopped on reel-to-reel at the end of 1971.    That  is a big mystery !!  Why so soon?  Reel to reel's clearly were being sold fairly well for another decade.

Artists who appear to have sold the best include Neil Diamond, Barbra Streisand, Barry Manilow, Captain And Tennille, Billy Joel

Very few true rock bands and especially hard rock bands seem to have been marketed or just sold poorly in this format as they rarely turn up.

So far Duran Duran is the only new wave 80's band to appear on reel to reel - makes me wonder if there could be releases from bands such as:

Eurythmics, Culture Club, Adam Ant, Madness, Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Prince, Huey Lewis, Van Halen, Rush etc.

No Beatles or solo-Beatles was ever released on reel to reel format after 1971

I was a member of Columbia House from 1981 to about 1989
I started out in vinyl initially but had switched to cassette in the late 80's
I never knew anyone personally who bought 8-tracks or reel to reels during this time period
