| RIHANNA - UNFAITHFUL (2006) hit #6
Unfaithful" is a song by
Barbadian recording artist
Rihanna from her second studio album
A Girl like Me (2006). Written by American singer
Ne-Yo,
Mikkel S. Eriksen and
Tor Erik Hermansen, the song was originally titled
"Murderer" and is about a woman who regrets cheating on her
partner. "Unfaithful" is a
pop
ballad that contains prominent
R&B elements, and was inspired by the works of American
rock band
Evanescence. It was released by
Def Jam Recordings on June 20, 2006, as the second
single from the album.
"Unfaithful" garnered a mixed response from critics; many praised its powerful balladry, but some criticized the lyrics. The song reached the top ten on the singles charts in 19 countries, including the UK Singles Chart, on which it became Rihanna's third top-ten single. "Unfaithful" peaked at number six on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), denoting shipments of over one million copies. "Unfaithful" debuted at number 51 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart on May 13, 2006. The same week, Rihanna's previous single "SOS" reached number one. "Unfaithful" peaked at number 6 on July 22, 2006, after 10 weeks on the chart, and became Rihanna's third top ten single in the US. On July 29, 2006, "Unfaithful" also topped the US Hot Dance Club Songs chart, becoming her third number one there. The song was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on July 27, 2006, after more than one million downloads were shipped. "Unfaithful" was more successful in Canada where it reached number one on the Canadian Singles Chart. In Australia, the song entered the chart at number two, where it peaked, on July 30, 2006. It was later certified gold by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA), denoting shipments of 35,000 copies. The same week, "Unfaithful" entered the New Zealand singles chart at number five. The next week, it peaked at number four where it stayed for three consecutive weeks |
| TERRY HOKNES - I LOVE YOU (1992)
Opus
#784 In 1992 age 21 I went and packaged up very first official release album on cassette called COOL ALL OVER. It featured all my original songs and a weird bunch of genres. It was reviewed in an issue of the SOMA newspaper in 1992 by Brent Pomeroy. He liked the musicianship but thought the vocals need work. The album was recorded primitively on a new 4 track cassette tape recorder I had bought and recorded this album while renting at 314 Cumberland Ave I wrote my first song in 1982 at age 11 in Grade 6. I would sporadically write 18 few songs over the next 4 years. Starting with my 19th song (Opus #19) I began writing on a very regular basis starting in December 1986 in Grade 11 at Aden Bowman. This included writing over 58 songs with my best friend Nels Krauss over the period of 1986-1992. I wrote 97 songs in 1987 and then 215 songs in 1988. By the time I graduated high school at age 17 I was up to Opus #268. I wrote another 178 songs in 1989. By the time I celebrated my 19th birthday I was up to Opus #524. At that time I was in first year University living in Muenster, SK in residence at St Peters College at the monastery. I met a poet from New York named Philip Murray who I collaborated with writing music to his words 91 songs in total. I wrote my 1000th song the week I turned 25 in January 1996. |
| NATASHA BEDINGFIELD - POCKETFUL OF SUNSHINE (2008) Album: Pocketful Of Sunshine (2008) Very catchy song with many layered vocal performances which really grab you. My favorite song of 2008 at age 37. May 17th 2008 - my #1 current Canadian top 40 hit for 20 weeks May 24th 2008 - my #1 current top 40 hit for 20 weeks straight making it my #1 song of 2008. June 11th 2008 - my #1 favorite daily song for 80 days making it my #1 daily song of 2008. Pocketful of Sunshine" is a song performed by British singer and songwriter Natasha Bedingfield, released as the second single from her second North American studio album Pocketful of Sunshine (2008). Bedingfield co-wrote the song together with American songwriter Danielle Brisebois and American musician and songwriter John Shanks; Shanks also produced the track as well as performing on most of the instruments present. Epic Records serviced the song to mainstream radios on February 11, 2008 in the United States. Pocketful of Sunshine" experienced its highest success in the North American territories. In the United States, the song enter the Billboard Hot 100 at number sixty-five on the week ending February 9, 2008 as well as the Hot Digital Songs Chart at number twenty four.It continued to ascend the chart until the week ending July 5, 2008, when "Pocketful of Sunshine" reached its peak at number five. It also peaked at number four on the Hot Digital Songs and Pop Songs chart, as well as number ten on the Radio Songs chart. The single also became her second single to top the Hot Dance/Club Play Songs "Pocketful of Sunshine" has become Bedingfield's most successful single in the United States, selling more than three million downloads and was certified double platinum almost a year after its release. The song fared similarly in Canada, peaked at number three on the week ending May 17, 2008 The single lasted a total of thirty-eight weeks on the chart sold more than 80,000 downloads there, earning a platinum certification by Music Canada on November 19, 2008 |
| CONTEMPORARY GOSPEL CHOIR - NEVER ALONE (1980) Album: Fame soundtrack (1980) Amazing teenage gospel choir performing this upbeat christian song. August 31st 1990 - my #2 favorite daily song for 1 day at age 19 the week entering 2nd year University.
Fame is the original
soundtrack of the
1980
Academy Award- and
Golden Globe-winning
film
Fame starring
Irene Cara,
Lee Curreri,
Paul McCrane and
Laura Dean. The original
score was composed by
Michael Gore.
The score won the Academy Award for Best Music - Original Score. It was also nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score, the BAFTA Award for Best Film Music and a Grammy Award. The songs "Out Here On My Own" and "Fame" were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song, with the latter one winning the award. Track 8 = "Never Alone“ (3:21) - Contemporary Gospel Chorus of the High School of Music and Art |
| PINK FLOYD - CIRRUS MINOR (1969) Album: Soundtrack From The Film More (1969)
Cirrus Minor" is a song written and performed by the
progressive/psychedelic rock band
Pink Floyd. It is the first track on their
1969 album
Soundtrack from the Film More. The song
is approximately 5 minutes 15 seconds long. It was written
by
Roger Waters and performed with
David Gilmour (vocals, guitar) and
Richard Wright (organ). The song has a hallucinogenic,
pastoral quality, with prominent organ and bird sound
effects, like those that later featured on the
Ummagumma track "Grantchester
Meadows". It was also included on Pink Floyd's
compilation album
Relics. The song features no drums, which creates a
rather unusual feeling. The Hammond and Farfisa organ coda
is similar to that found on the "Celestial Voices" section
of "A
Saucerful of Secrets". While the Hammond provides a
stately foundation with a Em-Bm-D-A-G-D-B sequence, about
1/4 way into the coda Wright introduces the Farfisa which,
run through a
Binson Echorec
platter echo, produces the swirly, trembly, echoey sound
that hovers over the Hammond.
"Cirrus Minor" has an unusual chord sequence: E minor, E flat augmented, G major, C# minor 7, C major 7, C minor 7 and B 7. The chords are built around the chromatically descending bass line. The B 7, C major 7 and G major chords are the only chords which fit into the functional context of the E minor key. This chord sequence gives the song a very surreal atmosphere. Equally surreal is the stately and pastoral Hammond/Farfisa coda. It is one of the best examples of how and why Wright was so crucial to the band's early sounds and textures |
| RINGO STARR - I'M THE GREATEST (1973) Album: Ringo (1973) My family had the 8-track so when I became a Beatles fan this 8-track was in the home at my grandparents so likely started listening to it by 1982 at age 11. Eventually I had 3 copies of the record. July 11th 1990 - my #9 favorite daily song for 1 day at age 19 before entering 2nd year University and celebrating Ringo's 50th birthday.
I'm the Greatest" is a song written by
John Lennon for
Ringo Starr; both former members of the music group
The Beatles. It was released by Starr on the 1973
Ringo album as well as four compilation and live
albums.
Starr sings lead vocals and plays drums, Lennon plays piano and sings harmony vocals and George Harrison plays electric guitar; Billy Preston on organ and Klaus Voormann on bass. It is one of only a few non-Beatles songs to feature three members of the band. Richard Perry produced the recording. At this point after the end of The Beatles as a band, three of them—Starr, Lennon and Harrison—in addition to Voormann and Preston (sometimes referred to as "Fifth Beatles"), appear on this record. It sounds very much like something from Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, with its texture, lyrics (using "Billy Shears", Ringo's alias on Sgt. Pepper) and public noises insinuating "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". Not surprisingly, when word of that session hit the media, furious Beatles reunion rumours (the first of several) began spreading.

| STEVIE WONDER - KNOCKS ME OFF MY FEET (1976) Album: Songs In The Key Of Life (1976) August 17th 1987 - my #3 favorite daily song for 5 days at age 16 after family returned home from our 6 trip holiday to the Maritimes right before starting Grade 12. September 27th 2008 - my #2 favorite daily song for 37 days at age 37 living at Ave M South with Valerie now married 1 year and Nicholas was almost 2.5.
Songs in the Key of Life is the 18th album by
American recording artist
Stevie Wonder, released September 28, 1976, on
Motown Records. It was the culmination of his "classic
period" albums. An ambitious
double LP with a 4-song bonus
EP, Songs in the Key of Life became among the
best-selling and most critically acclaimed albums of his
career. In 2003, the album was ranked number 56 on
Rolling Stone magazine's list of
the 500 greatest albums of all time.
Highly anticipated, the album surpassed all commercial expectations. Surprisingly, it debuted straight at number one on the Billboard Pop Albums Chart on October 8, 1976, becoming only the third album in history to achieve that feat and the first by an American artist (after British singer/composer Elton John's Captain Fantastic and Rock of the Westies in 1975). In Canada, the album achieved the same feat, entering at number 1 on the RPM national albums chart on October 16. Songs in the Key of Life spent thirteen consecutive weeks at number one in the U.S., eleven during 1976. It was the album with the most weeks at number one during the year. In those eleven weeks, Songs in the Key of Life managed to block four other albums from reaching the top – in order, Boz Scaggs's Silk Degrees, Earth, Wind & Fire's Spirit, Led Zeppelin's soundtrack for The Song Remains the Same and Rod Stewart's A Night on the Town. On January 15, 1977, the album finally dropped to number two behind Eagles' Hotel California and the following week it fell to number four. On January 29 it returned to the top for a fourteenth and final week. The album then began its final fall. It spent a total of 35 weeks inside the Top Ten and 80 weeks on the Billboard albums chart. Songs In the Key of Life also saw longevity at number one on the Billboard R&B/Black Albums chart, spending twenty non-consecutive weeks there |
| ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA - FROM THE SUN TO THE MOON (BOOGIE NO 1)
(1972) March 4th 1988 - my #1 favorite daily song for 9 days at age 17 in Grade 12 - the song at an epic length of 8 minutes from their 2nd album. A great work with different moods and theme changes.
ELO 2 is the second
album by
Electric Light Orchestra, released in 1973. In the US
the album was released as Electric Light Orchestra II
and is sometimes known as ELO II.
Originally to be titled The Lost Planet, but that concept was quietly dropped (see below), it was during the initial recording sessions for this album that Roy Wood left the band and formed Wizzard in early 1972. Although uncredited at the time Wood performed on two tracks, playing cello and bass on "In Old England Town" and "From the Sun to the World". Classically trained cellists Colin Walker and Mike Edwards replaced Wood, and Wilfred Gibson played on violin. Richard Tandy made his ELO studio debut on the album although he had earlier performed live with the original lineup. The British and American sleeves differed, as did the title; in the UK it was released in a gatefold sleeve titled ELO 2 with a painting of a light bulb travelling through space with the wording ELO2 on the base of the bulb, while in the US the cover featured a more ornate light bulb against a night sky and was titled Electric Light Orchestra II. For reasons unknown "Roll Over Beethoven" was slightly edited in length compared with its US counterpart. Track 2 'Momma' was Americanised to "Mama" for the US release. All five pieces are longer than standard rock songs, and feature multi-layered orchestral instruments that create a dense, complex sound, The album contains the band's longest running song, the anti-war song Kuiama. Along with its predecessor it is the least commercial sounding album the band released, although ironically it did reach the British Top 40 album chart, whereas its more concise follow-up, On the Third Day, did not; an edit of "Roll Over Beethoven" was a Top 10 hit in Britain and received radio airplay in America too. |
| ANDREW W.K. - NEVER LET DOWN (2003) Album: The Wolf (2003) I saw the music video for this song while performing in Golden, BC at Packers Place and saw it on MuchMusic. I loved it the instant I heard it knowing I had to buy the album. I got it for Xmas 2003. January 1st 2004 - my #2 favorite daily song for 31 days. An epic party anthem !! The Wolf is the second major-label album by hard rock solo artist Andrew W.K., released on Island Records
In spite of Andrew's party-oriented debut, The Wolf
was a more elaborate and ornate effort, with insightful
lyrics and a more melodic sound. This did not stop it from
being successful. The album also found Andrew playing all of
the instruments on the album, whereas on
I Get Wet he split the chore with studio musicians.
The Wolf spawned the singles "Never Let Down" and
"Tear It Up".
This album was originally titled "Blow Your Bone", but the title was deemed "Too offensive" by Island Records, so Andrew opted to use the name "The Wolf". Cover art was even made with the original title, but it differed from the cover art of "The Wolf". It is not known whether the album had different material on it, as the only actual thing referencing the title was an ad made just before the album's release. The release date on the ad for "Blow Your Bone" did not change from the date that The Wolf was actually released.

| THE BEATLES - BECAUSE (1969) Album: Abbey Road (1969) I don't remember when I got Abbey Road but it was likely in 1982 at age 11
Because" is a song written by
John Lennon (credited to
Lennon–McCartney) and recorded by
The Beatles in 1969. It features a prominent three-part
vocal harmony by Lennon, McCartney and
George Harrison,
overdubbed three times to make nine voices in all. It
first appeared on
Abbey Road (1969), immediately preceding the
extended
medley on side two of the record.
The song begins with a distinctive electric harpsichord intro played by producer George Martin. The harpsichord is joined by Lennon's guitar (mimicking the harpsichord line) played through a Leslie speaker. Then vocals and bass guitar enter. "Because" was one of few Beatles recordings to feature a Moog synthesiser, played by George Harrison. It appears in what Alan Pollack refers to as the "mini-bridge", and then again at the end of the song. The group were among the first in contemporary rock & roll to experiment with a Moog, though the instrument had been used before (notably by bands such as The Doors, whose Strange Days was the first rock and roll record to feature the Moog, Simon & Garfunkel and the The Monkees. According to Lennon, the song's close musical resemblance to Ludwig van Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" was no coincidence: "Yoko was playing Beethoven's 'Moonlight Sonata' on the piano ... I said, 'Can you play those chords backwards?', and wrote 'Because' around them. The lyrics speak for themselves ... No imagery, no obscure references |
| ROY WOOD - NANCY SING ME A SONG (1973) Album: Boulders (1973) I had been a huge fan of ELO for a while and knew of Roy Wood one of the founding members. On February 14th 1985 at age 14 (grade 9) I flipped through the bargain bin of records at the Kresge's Department Store in Midtown Plaza shopping mall in Saskatoon and found this new sealed album Mustard priced at 99 cents. The first time I heard this album that night I knew I had found a masterpiece and Roy Wood would be the first act to ever debut at #1 on my daily favorite music groups chart on that valentines day. (I declare this to be Roy Wood day). I bought a used copy of his first album Boulders a week later at Nudon Record shop on Louise & 8th Street. I flew to New York 17 years later to see Roy Wood 3 times in concert and got to meet him backstage 2 times. I have posted some of those video performances I filmed on www.youtube.com February 21st 1991- my #6 favorite daily song for 2 days at age 20 in 2nd year University celebrating the 6th anniversary of Roy Wood day.
Boulders is the first solo album by
Roy Wood. Apart from harmonium on track 1 played by John
Kurlander, all the instruments (including guitars, cello,
saxophone recorders) and voices were by Wood, who also
wrote, arranged, and produced the whole album, and did a
self-portrait for the front cover. Most of the album
was recorded while Wood was still in
The Move, although it was not released until he had left
the
Electric Light Orchestra and was fronting
Wizzard. Two singles were taken from the album, ‘When
Gran’ma Plays the Banjo’/’Wake Up’ (February 1972), and
‘Dear Elaine’/’Songs of Praise’ (August 1973). The latter
reached No. 18 in the UK charts. "Rock Down Low" and
"The Locomotive" were sometimes featured by Wizzard in their
live performances.

| JOHN LENNON - AIN'T THAT A SHAME (1975) Album: Rock And Roll (1975) I likely had this album by 1983 at age 12 and has helped influence to always enjoy fun 1950's rock. October 7th 1990 - my #1 favorite daily song for 8 days in celebration of John's 50th birthday when I was 19 in 2nd year University currently living in Nanny's old bedroom at grandmas house on Taylor Street playing records all fall on my sister Leslie's cheap portable all-in-one record/radio/tape player.
Rock 'n' Roll is a 1975 album of late 1950s
and early 1960s songs covered by
John Lennon. Recording the album was problematic and
spanned a year. Though critically derided, it reached #6 in
both the United Kingdom and the United States. Lennon
teamed up with producer
Phil Spector to record the album. When news got around
that Lennon was in Hollywood making a record, every musician
wanted to be part of the sessions. Many of them were, as
evidenced by the extensive line-up. But the sessions quickly
fell into disarray—fuelled by alcohol. Spector once showed
up dressed in a surgeon's outfit and shot a gun in the
ceiling of the studio, hurting Lennon's ears. On another
occasion, a bottle of whiskey had spilled on the A&M
Studio's mixing console causing future sessions to be banned
from the facility. Then Spector disappeared with the session
tapes and would not be heard from for several months.
Al Coury, then-head of A&R/promotion for
Capitol Records retrieved the Spector tapes for $90,000.
Not wanting to break stride, Lennon shelved the tapes and
completed work on Walls and Bridges. Levy took the
tapes and pressed his own version of the album called
ROOTS: John Lennon Sings The Great Rock & Roll Hits
on his record label,
Adam VIII, then proceeded to sue Lennon, EMI and Capitol
for $42 million for breach of contract. Capitol/EMI quickly ordered an injunction and Lennon
quickly finished work on his version of the album. In
February 1975, Capitol Records rush-released the official
Rock 'n' Roll, at a slightly reduced retail price, but
the delays had taken a toll on sales. The nostalgia wave had
peaked, and other artists such as
David Bowie and
Bryan Ferry had already released oldies projects, making
it less of a novelty.

| MORNING - SLEEPY EYES (1970) Album: Morning (1970) March 19th 1988 - my #9 favorite daily song for 1 day at age age 17 in Grade 12. Based in Los Angeles, featuring the talents of Barry Brown
vocals/guitar/drums, Terry Johnson vocals/guitar, Jim Hobson
vocals/keyboards, Jim Kehn vocals/guitar/drums, Jay Lewis vocals/guitar
and bassist Bruce Wallace. A fine Los Angeles-based group, originally known as The Morning and The Evening. The group was formed after Jay Lewis, also known as Jay Donnellan, had been fired from Love by Arthur Lee. Jim Hobson also appeared on Love's Out Here. When the band signed a recording contract with Vault they retained complete control of the writing, engineering, arranging and producing of their first album, which is an underrated folk-influenced gem. It has a crisp, yet often sleepy sound, which is at its best on And I'm Gone and Sleepy Eyes. The album closes with a ninety second country gem Dirt Roads (the only track written by Jim Kehn) which is worthy of comparison with the title track of Quicksilver's Happy Trails. |

DONNY & MARIE OSMOND - AIN'T NOTHING LIKE THE REAL THING (1976) Album: New Season (1976) April 20th 1991 - my #1 favorite daily song for 9 days at age 20 while taking extra highschool classes after graduating last year. The Osmonds had seen lots of criticism but I didnt really know their music so I picked up the Osmonds greatest hits album to educate myself. This was my favorite. In 1976, Donny & Marie Osmond covered the song on their album New Season. Their version was a moderate hit in early 1977, peaking at #21 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing" is a 1968 single released by American R&B/soul duo Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, on the Tamla label in 1968. The B-side of the single is "Little Ole Boy, Little Ole Girl" from the duo's United LP. The first release off the duo's second album, You're All I Need, the song, written and produced by longtime Gaye/Terrell collaborators Ashford & Simpson, became a hit within weeks of release eventually peaking at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the Hot Soul Singles chart Donald Clark "Donny" Osmond (born December 9, 1957) is an American singer, musician, actor, dancer, radio personality, and former teen idol. Osmond has also been a talk and game show host, record producer and author. In the mid 1960s, he and four of his elder brothers gained fame as The Osmonds on the long running variety program, The Andy Williams Show. Donny went solo in the early 1970s covering such hits as "Go Away Little Girl" and "Puppy Love". |
| JEFFREY GAINES - A DARK LOVE SONG (1992) Album: Jeffrey Gaines (1992) I won a national music trivia contest in Canada in 1992 and in the batch of prizes included a copy of this CD. It quickly became one of my all time favorites! He opened for Melissa Etheridge in 1993 and I bought a ticket so I could see him open as a solo act just him and his acoustic. September 29th 1992 - my #4 favorite daily song for 7 days in 4th year University at age 21 after moving back to grandma's house after living on my own for 5 months on Cumberland Ave during my "anorexic" stage. This entire album is deep and and serious in music and lyrical content. The song first became my #1 favorite on September 14th 1992 the month I entered 4th year University. It was the first of 2 #1 songs for me by Jeffrey Gaines. This album has returned to #1 numerous times over the years.
Jeffrey Gaines is an American
singer-songwriter and
guitarist. Born in
Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, he was signed to the
Chrysalis Records label in 1990 and released his debut
album, Jeffrey Gaines, in 1992.
The first single off the critically acclaimed Jeffrey Gaines was "Hero In Me". Gaines performed that song live on Good Morning America and the song received some radio and MTV airplay |
| YES - THE CALLING (1994) Album: Talk (1994) I discovered Yes in 1984 with their hit Owner Of A Lonely Heart but it was their 2nd new single Leave It that had my intrigued. I bought the album new at a Mac's Convenience store in about May 1984 on Ruth Street and they had a record promotion and also had a Yes plastic drink cup I got as well. Over the next 7 months I would buy every Yes album. So I learned their first 15 years of material all in 1984 just as I was entering high school. Yes would quickly become my 2nd favorite band of all time. I saw Bill Bruford live in concert in 1992 and chatted with him for a moment. My wife bought tickets to see Yes in 2008 in Toronto but the concert was cancelled due to Jon Anderson's vocal problems. We flew to New York in 2011 to see Jon Anderson solo in concert. Members of Yes are my favorite musicians ever including Rick Wakeman, Trevor Rabin, Steve Howe and Chris Squire, Bill Bruford and Alan White. Talk is the fourteenth studio album by progressive rock band Yes, released in 1994. Their first release with an independent label after having been distributed the length of their career thus far with Atlantic Records and Arista Records, Talk is the last Yes recording with Trevor Rabin and Tony Kaye. The Calling" is a song by the progressive rock band Yes, from their 1994 album Talk. It was a rock radio hit for the band, reaching number 3 on Billboard's Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. |
| TERRY HOKNES - NOTHING MORE TO SAY (2001) Opus #991 - written in
1995 As the new century began a new chapter in songwriting where the focus was more on recording polished songs but writing way less and very sporadic. I had written 500 songs by the age of 19 and had hit 1000 songs by the age of 25. But since then I can go over a year at a time without writing a song but really focusing in most cases on a more commercial type of polished song however I still venture into all possible genres. I continue to play and sing every part on all my songs and recordings. I hired Neil Meckelborg of Audio Art to record my songs in 2001. We started out recording a full album at their location downtown behind the Bus depot but eventually worked on recordings at Neil's private studio. In total we recorded 3 full albums of material of my songs and a full length album of songs I wrote with Marilyn Parney that I produced. Neil and I also worked on a Trooper hit song karaoke CD in 2001. I spent 18 months recording with Neil and over 40 songs and over $10,000.00 in studio bills I paid at that time to record the best quality audio ever on my songs. Neil had used Sonar Cakewalk so I learned how to use it and have used that now for a decade in my own studio. |
| BILLY JOEL - I GO TO EXTREMES (1990) Album: Storm Front (1989) August 31st 2009 - my #9 favorite daily song for 39 days while putting together my Billy Joel tribute.
"I Go to Extremes" is the fourth track on
Billy Joel's 1989
album,
Storm Front. It was released as the second
single from the album in 1990. It peaked at the number
six position on the
Billboard Hot 100, and at #70 on the UK chart.
The song was also a top ten hit on both the
Adult Contemporary chart, as well as the
Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. The song was also a top 40
hit in Germany, peaking at #36 on the German charts.
At one point considered a song about a manic-depressive, the song was originally written as an apology to Joel's wife at the time, Christie Brinkley. The B-side to the single was another song that appeared on the same album, "When in Rome". The music video consists of Joel and his backing band playing the song in a room. The song received a mostly positive response, and a live version appears on the album 2000 Years: The Millennium Concert. During live performances, Joel would often jokingly change the lyrics to the chorus, as well as to various lines in the song. |
| ROY WOOD - WHY DOES SUCH A PRETTY GIRL SING SUCH SAD SONGS (1975) Album: Mustard (1975) I had been a huge fan of ELO for a while and knew of Roy Wood one of the founding members. I have posted some of those video performances I filmed on www.youtube.com February 1985 - this would have been one of my favorite songs but not documented. February 18th 1990 - my #9 favorite daily song for 1 day at age 19 while living in the monastery at St. Peters College in Muenster, SK for 1st year university celebrating the 5th anniversary of Roy Wood day.
Mustard is the second solo
album by
Roy Wood, who wrote and produced every track and painted
the cartoon-style cover. It was completed and released about
the same time as he disbanded his group
Wizzard. He played all the instruments, and contributed
all vocals apart from guest appearances by
Annie Haslam,
Phil Everly, ex-Move
& Wizzard bassist Rick Price, and co-engineer Dick Plant.
"Look Thru’ The Eyes of a Fool" (1975) and "Any Old Time
Will Do" (1976) were released as singles, though like the
album, neither made the charts

| THE TREMELOES - HERE COMES MY BABY (1967) hit #13
Here Comes My Baby" is a
pop song
written by
Cat Stevens and
recorded in 1967. It originally appeared on his
album
Matthew and Son.
The track was featured in the film Rushmore. A clip from the Cat Stevens original is played on Scrubs (season 2 episode 5) in the scene "My New Coat." The song, minus the final verse, was also covered by The Tremeloes, whose version was a No. 4 hit in the UK Singles Chart and a No. 13 hit in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1967. It was also covered by The Mavericks. In 1990, Yo La Tengo covered it in their covers album Fakebook. Jim Noir covered the song for a 2006 Chase Bank commercial. After switching from Decca to CBS Records, The Tremeloes started a successful hit run from 1967 onwards with Cat Stevens' "Here Comes My Baby"; "Hello World"; three Italian hits translated into English ("Suddenly You Love Me", which is Riccardo Del Turco's "Uno tranquillo" ("One quiet man"), "I'm Gonna Try", which is Riccardo Del Turco's 1967 hit "Luglio" ("July"), and "My Little Lady", based on Orietta Berti's "Non illuderti mai" ("Never deceive yourself")); and their Number one recording of an old Four Seasons' B-side "Silence is Golden". Both this last single and "Here Comes My Baby" also entered the Top Twenty of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 on CBS' co-owned Epic Records. All members shared vocals, though most of the songs featured either Hawkes or drummer Dave Munden as the lead singer. Guitarist Ricky West sang lead vocal on "Silence is Golden". Their regular hits were accompanied by frequent appearances on BBC's Top of the Pops TV programme. Their songs were popular with younger music fans and parents rather than rock music fans. Altogether, without Poole the group had nine UK Top Twenty hits. |
