    THE BEATLES - MISERY (1963)

Album:  Please Please Me (1963)

Once John Lennon died in December 1980 I went on a huge Beatles blitz for the next 2 purchasing every Beatles album as I could afford it.   I would have learned this song possibly from one of the Canadian Beatles albums in 1981 or 1982.  One of my all time favorite earliest Beatles songs.

Misery" is a song performed by The Beatles on their album Please Please Me. It was co-written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. According to Lennon, "It was kind of a John song more than a Paul song, but it was written together." McCartney was to say: "I don't think either one of us dominated on that one, it was just a hacking job."

A 1963 single by Kenny Lynch made "Misery" the first Beatles' song to be covered by another artist

In February 1963, Helen Shapiro was Britain's most successful female singer (having first achieved chart success two years earlier at the age of 14) and The Beatles were fifth on the bill as part of her nationwide tour of the United Kingdom. Her artist and repertoire manager, Norrie Paramor, was looking for new material for a country and western album she planned to record in Nashville, Tennessee and suggested that The Beatles compose a song especially for her. "Misery" was started backstage before The Beatles' performance at the King's Hall, Stoke-on-Trent, on 26 January 1963, and later completed at Paul McCartney's Forthlin Road home. At the time, McCartney commented: "We've called it 'Misery', but it isn't as slow as it sounds, it moves along at quite a pace, and we think Helen will make a pretty good job of it." But Paramor considered it unsuitable, and so British singer and entertainer Kenny Lynch, who was on the same tour, recorded it instead (HMV Pop 1136), thus becoming the first artist to cover a Lennon–McCartney composition although he failed to enter the charts with it. In 1973, Lynch appeared in the cover photograph for McCartney's album, Band on the Run.

U2 & GREEN DAY - THE SAINTS ARE COMING (2007)

November 11th 2006 - my #3 favorite daily song for 37 days at age 35 living at Eastview dating Valerie now for 10 months and Nicholas was now 7 months old.

The song's lyrics about storms and drowning came back to light after the events of Hurricane Katrina. In September 2006, it was announced that Green Day and U2 were to record a cover version of the song for charitable purposes.   To coincide with the U2 and Green Day recording of the song, both bands performed it live during the Monday Night Football Pregame show of the New Orleans Saints versus Atlanta Falcons game on 25 September 2006. This was the first game in the Louisiana Superdome since it was heavily damaged by Hurricane Katrina in August 2005. The live performance of the song was later sold online to benefit Music Rising, a charity created by U2's The Edge in order to bring instruments and music programs back to New Orleans.

In the four song set, U2 and Green Day performed "Wake Me Up When September Ends" followed by a medley of the American folk song "House of the Rising Sun", Skids' "The Saints Are Coming" and U2's "Beautiful Day" as a seven-piece band, augmented by the Rebirth Brass Band, the New Birth Brass Band, Troy Andrews, and Big Sam Williams. The lyrics of all four songs were customized by singers Billie Joe Armstrong and Bono to commemorate the trials, tribulations, and successes that faced the city over the past year. Punctuating the 68,000 fans' first season-ticket sellout of the Louisiana Superdome in its 31-year history, the New Orleans Saints beat the Atlanta Falcons 23-3. Since then, the song has been played at Saints home games before they take the field. The live version of "The Saints Are Coming" was immediately made available for download purchase at Real Rhapsody

TERRY HOKNES - CAROUSEL OF LIFE (1989) Demo Opus 159

I wasn't sure if I wanted to add my own terrible sounding audio demo's of songs but I figured if it one of my personal favorite original songs that it definitely should be on my favorite songs list but hopefully I will find time in the future to finally record a proper studio polished version of this song.  (However in my mind I can picture a better final audio product).

I wrote my first song in 1982 at age 11 in Grade 6.     I would sporadically write 18 few songs over the next 4 years.  Starting with my 19th song (Opus #19) I began writing on a very regular basis starting in December 1986 in Grade 11 at Aden Bowman.  This included writing over 58 songs with my best friend Nels Krauss over the period of 1986-1992.  I wrote 97 songs in 1987 and then 215 songs in 1988.   By the time I graduated high school at age 17 I was up to Opus #268.   I wrote another 178 songs in 1989.   By the time I celebrated my 19th birthday I was up to Opus #524.   At that time I was in first year University living in Muenster, SK in residence at St Peters College at the monastery.  I met a poet from New York named Philip Murray who I collaborated with writing music to his words 91 songs in total.  I wrote my 1000th song the week I turned 25 in January 1996.

Even though I was writing all the time and working and performing my own songs at home I never had a band so I didn't play any of the songs in public and I didn't have any money or materials to record proper good quality recordings.  So all my demo's were quite primitive and low quality audio.  I started recording in 1982 singing along with records.  In 1983 I started recording my own versions of songs live on guitar and vocals along with my best friend of the time Zender Millar.    In 1989 Nels Krauss and I rented a 4-track cassette recorder for the first time and I rushed through 55 songs in 7 days just to get them on tape though I didnt have any good quality microphones, headphones and knew nothing about EQ and recording levels etc.   Each year my demo's would get a bit better sounding and a little more polished so to this day I don't feel I have done justice to any original songs I recorded from 1986 to 1994 when I did the bulk of my writing and recording.

AMY GRANT - AGELESS MEDLEY (1983)

Album:  Ageless  Medley promo EP (1983)

Amy Grants greatest hits Collection was releasedand and I bought a new copy on cassette at the Bay music department in the basement on 2nd Avenue in January 1988.  One of the few christian albums I really love and this was a powerhouse medley including 8 of her best songs from her famous Ageless album.

January 21st 1988 - my #1 favorite daily song for 4 days the week after turning 17 in Grade 12.  This was my 2nd #1 from this Collection album.

Ageless Medley was a 1983 EP released by Amy Grant's record label, Myrrh Records. It was released in separate cassette and vinyl versions. Even though it was designed as purely a promotional tool, it reached the Top Ten of the Christian radio charts, and won the 1983 Grammy Award for Best Gospel Performance, Female. It was later featured on the cassette and CD versions of Grant's 1986 compilation album The Collection.

    10CC - THE WALL STREET SHUFFLE (1974)

Album:  Sheet Music (1974)

July 20th 2007 - my #7 favorite daily song.

I originally learned this song in 1985 when I first became a fan of their Greatest Hits album.   A great rocking anthem and a great melodic bridge.  I love the dramatic ending which reminds me of 1985 by Paul McCartney and Wings from 1973.

The Wall Street Shuffle" is a single by the British pop/rock band 10cc released in 1974. The song originally appears on the band's 1974 album Sheet Music and was the second single to be released from the album after "The Worst Band in the World." It was also the most successful single to be released from the album making #10 on the British charts.

The songs is a heavy classic rock riff driven affair with lyrics that deal with Wall Street and the economy. It features several topical cultural references and specifically mentions Getty, Rothschild and Howard Hughes. In a BBC Radio Wales interview, Eric Stewart added: "We were crossing Wall Street in New York in a stretch limousine, celebrating the fact that we'd got in the charts with Rubber Bullets, and we'd gone across the big financial district of America there, and just as we were going across the street, Lol said 'Wall Street! The Wall Street Shuffle!' And I said 'Do the Wall Street Shuffle,' the melody, I had the melody in my head. But it was Lol, Lol's words. Wall Street Shuffle. And by that time I'd started writing more so I was getting a little bit more competent in what I was doing in, in the writing partnerships. And those things stay with you, as I was saying earlier on, if someone says a nice line to you or you hear something on radio, there's a part of your brain suddenly locks it in if it's good, and you'll never forget it. Until you get into the studio and start to write. And we got to the studio to, to start writing our second album, Sheet Music, and I said to Lol, 'Remember that idea, Lol, Wall Street Shuffle?' He said 'Yeah, yeah, it's a great idea, great title, but I don't think I really, I don't feel right like writing. I don't think I have anything to put in that in terms of words.' So I said, 'Well, anybody else want to write? Is anybody gonna go for this?' and Graham says 'Yeah, yeah, okay, yeah, let's try and write it.'"

BADFINGER - GIVE IT UP (1974)

Album:  Shine On (1974)

May 3rd 1989 - my #2 favorite daily song for 3 day at age 18 a year after highschool.

Badfinger is the fifth album by rock band Badfinger. The album was recorded in autumn 1973 and released in 1974 on Warner Bros. Records. It was the first of two albums released by the band on the Warner label. The cover art for the album is a woman wearing a riding outfit and hat from the 1920s and smoking a cigarette in a cigarette holder.

As Badfinger was completing work on its last album for Apple, Ass, Badfinger's manager, Stan Polley, signed the band to a three-year, six-album deal with Warners. As a result, shortly after the band and producer Chris Thomas completed recording of Ass, they found themselves back in the studio making a new album for Warner.

Although the album is technically untitled, it is referred to as Badfinger as this is its only identification outside its matrix number. The intended title, For Love Or Money, was rejected by the label at the time of production and was never used. The intended title referred to Badfinger's label change from Apple Records to Warner Brothers.

Like Ass, Badfinger received weak reviews in the influential American music magazine Rolling Stone upon its release. A UK single released prior to the album, "Love Is Easy", failed to chart. A subsequent single released in the US, "I Miss You", also failed.

The album only reached #161 in the Billboard Hot 200, making it Badfinger's lowest charting album. Part of the reason for the poor chart performance was that, due to litigation with Apple Records, this album and Ass came out within months of each other; in fact, in the UK, Badfinger actually came out before Ass.

CLEAR LIGHT - THEY WHO HAVE NOTHING (1967)

Album:  Clear Light (1967)

One of my all time favorite albums - so innovative and was released exact same time as Sgt Pepper however this album sold poorly.  This was possibly the last album I promoted heavily before moving out on my own to Muenster SK for 1st year University.

September 5th 1989 - my #2 favorite daily song for 3 days at age 18 the week I moved to Muenster.

Clear Light was the only album released by the 1960s American psychedelic rock band Clear Light. It was released in September 1967 and peaked at number 126 on the Billboard pop albums chart. It combined elements of folk, rock, psychedelic, and classical music. It is an AMG music pick, although the album was not a success at the time.

Clear Light was a psychedelic rock band that formed in Los Angeles in 1966.  In 1966, The Brain Train formed and was managed by Sunset Strip hipster Bud Mathis. They recorded one single before changing their name to Clear Light and signing to Elektra Records; Doors' on which producer Paul A. Rothchild took over management of the band.   In what has been called the band's finest hour, drunken customers in a Park Avenue club heckled them so brutally that Ralph Schuckett, the usually gentle organist, hurled a few choice words back at them. They then walked off the stage, retired to the Albert Hotel, and woke up in the morning to find that they had become underground heroes.

The most notable track from the Clear Light album, was "Mr. Blue," a psychedelic version of a folk song written by Tom Paxton and a popular request on underground radio at the time. Lasting over six minutes, the rather sinister, psychedelic song is considered a classic of the genre. Its lyrics, which alternate between spoken word and song, include verses opening with such lines as, "Good morning, Mister Blue, we've got our eye on you," "Step softly, Mister Blue, we know what's best for you," and "Be careful, Mister Blue, this phase you're going through ...."

The album also included some of guitarist Bob Seal's psychedelic folk-rock songs, namely "With All in Mind" and "They Who Have Nothing." It had some success in England, but was largely ignored in the U.S, reaching #126 on the Billboard album chart. Paul Rothchild then pressured the other members of the band to fire Bob Seal. Seal was replaced by ex-Fug Danny "Kootch" Kortchmar; Cliff De Young was soon to follow, and after having started work on a second album the group disbanded in 1968.

GEORGE HARRISON - ART OF DYING (1970)

I first bought this album around 1982 at age 11.  This album was #1 the day I was born on 1/15/71.

Art of Dying" is a song by George Harrison, released on his 1970 triple album All Things Must Pass. It was written in 1966−67 when Harrison first became immersed in Hindu spirituality, and its subject matter is reincarnation − the "art" in question being the need to avoid rebirth, by limiting actions and thoughts whose consequences lead to one's soul returning in another, earthbound life form. The song was co-produced by Phil Spector and features a hard-charging rock arrangement that has been described as "proto-disco". The backing musicians include Eric Clapton and the rest of the latter's short-lived band Derek & The Dominos, as well as Billy Preston and a teenage Phil Collins.

Since Harrison's death in November 2001, the lyrics of "Art of Dying" have been much quoted as a comment on the nature of human existence

All Things Must Pass is a triple album by George Harrison. Recorded and released in 1970, the album was Harrison's first solo work since the break-up of The Beatles in April that year. The original vinyl release featured two LPs of rock songs as well as Apple Jam, a third disc of informal jams. Often credited as rock's first triple album, it was in fact the first by a single act, the multi-artist Woodstock live set having preceded it by six months.

In regards to the album's size, Harrison stated: "I didn't have many tunes on Beatles records, so doing an album like All Things Must Pass was like going to the bathroom and letting it out."

The album was critically acclaimed and, with long stays at number 1 in both the US and the UK, commercially successful. It was certified 6x platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America in 2001

THE GO GO'S - WE GOT THE BEAT (1982) hit #2

They performed on TV on Solid Gold on January 16th 1982 - the day after my 11th birthday. I fell in love with The Go Go's immediately and went and bought their album that same week. In August we saw them in concert in Vancouver BC Canada. Still one of my favorite albums of all time 30 years later ! It is episode 17 of season 2 of Solid Gold.

We Got the Beat" is a song recorded by the American rock band The Go-Go's. Written by the group's lead guitarist Charlotte Caffey, the band recorded the song in 1980 and it was released in July as a single in the UK on Stiff Records. The song's single release brought the Go-Go's underground credibility in the UK. The song climbed to number 35 on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart due to the popularity of the song in clubs as an import.

The following year the Go-Go's re-recorded the song for their debut album Beauty and the Beat. Released in January 1982 as the album's second single, "We Got the Beat" became the Go-Go's biggest hit, spending three weeks at number two on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, behind Joan Jett & the Blackhearts' "I Love Rock 'n Roll". It was during the song's time in the U.S. top ten that Beauty and the Beat topped the U.S. Billboard 200.

Clocking in at only two-and-a-half-minutes, the song is instantly recognizable by its drumming intro. Lyrically, the song is a simple ode to dancing to a good beat, hanging out, and looking cool. In line with a trend of early 1960s revival also seen in bands like The B-52's, The Rezillos, and numerous powerpop and ska revival bands,"We Got the Beat" mentions various early 60s dances, such as the Pony, the Watusi, and Go-Go dancing (which could also be interpreted as a self-reference). The song's music video received heavy airplay on MTV at the time and consisted of a simple live concert performance of the song and gained further exposure by being used in the opening sequence of the Amy Heckerling-directed film Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982). The song is in chromatic-minor.

"We Got the Beat" was named one of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll

DAVID CROSBY - SONG WITH NO WORDS (1971)

Album:  If I Could Only Remember My Name (1971)

August 1st 2003 - my #5 favorite daily song for 19 days the month I saw CSN in concert for the 2nd time and the month I moved into my first home alone at Eastview.

If I Could Only Remember My Name is the debut solo album by David Crosby, released in February 1971 on Atlantic Records. One of four high-profile albums released by each member of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young in the wake of their chart-topping Déjà Vu album, it peaked at #12 on the Billboard 200. It has been in print continuously since its initial release. The album gained new recognition in 2010 when it was listed second on the Vatican's "Top 10 Pop Albums of All Time" as published in the official newspaper of the Holy See, L'Osservatore Romano

David Van Cortlandt Crosby (born August 14, 1941) is an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter. In addition to his solo career, he was a founding member of three bands: The Byrds, Crosby, Stills & Nash (who are sometimes joined by Neil Young), and CPR. Crosby has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice: once for his work in The Byrds and once for his work with CSN

THE HUMAN BEINZ - I'VE GOT TO KEEP ON PUSHING (1968)

Album:  Evolutions (1968)

November 25th 1987 - my #4 favorite daily song for 5 days at age 16 while in Grade 12.

I performed this song live in 2 different bands - The Smoking Crawdads in 1990 and Blackberry Way in 1991.   I  sang lead vocals and played bass guitar in both cases with Gerard Saretsky on guitar, Jed Evans on drums.  Mark Rogstad was the lead singer/guitar for The Smoking Crawdads only.  This was likely the first song I ever sang live with a band.

The Human Beinz is an American rock and roll / frat rock band from Youngstown, Ohio. The group signed to Capitol Records in 1967 and at that time Capitol misspelled their name, leaving out the "g". The Beingz were told it would be changed on the next release if the debut single did not have any success. In September 1967 "Nobody but Me" was released and became their only Billboard Top 40 hit, which meant that Capitol would not correct the spelling. "Nobody But Me" (written and first recorded by The Isley Brothers in 1962) peaked at #8 in February 1968. In Casey Kasem's "Book of Records" category of most repetitive word or phrase in a Hot 100 top 10 hit, the recording's two 31-fold repetitions of the word "no" are second only to the two 40-fold and one 50-plus-fold repetitions of the imitative word "dit" in "Western Union" by Five Americans. An album, Nobody But Me, followed.

The Beinz' next single, "Turn On Your Love Light," flopped in the United States (peaking at #80), but reached #1 in Japan. "Turn On Your Love Light", originally a hit for Bobby Bland in 1962, was later covered by Jerry Lee Lewis and the Grateful Dead. In 1968, Capitol released a second album, Evolutions. They also released the single, "Hold on Baby", exclusively in Japan, where it also hit the top of the charts. Despite their Japanese success, The Human Beinz broke up in March 1969, but due to contract obligations, had to undertake a tour there

THE BEATLES - POLYTHENE PAM (1969)

Album:  Abbey Road (1969)

I don't remember when I got Abbey Road but it was likely in 1982 at age 11

"Polythene Pam" is a song written by John Lennon, credited to Lennon–McCartney, and performed by The Beatles on their album Abbey Road. The song is the part of the B-side medley in which Lennon declares that the title heroine "is so good looking but she looks like a man."

The song was originally introduced during The Beatles sessions; a demo from the Esher Sessions can be found on Anthology 3. Lennon would describe this song, along with "Mean Mr. Mustard", in The Beatles Anthology as "a bit of crap I wrote in India".

In 1980, John Lennon said about "Polythene Pam": "That was me, remembering a little event with a woman in Jersey, and a man who was England's answer to Allen Ginsberg...I met him when we were on tour and he took me back to his apartment and I had a girl and he had one he wanted me to meet. He said she dressed up in polythene, which she did. She didn't wear jack boots and kilts, I just sort of elaborated. Perverted sex in a polythene bag. Just looking for something to write about." The song is sung in a very strong Liverpudlian "Scouse" accent.

PAUL McCARTNEY - ONE OF THESE DAYS (1980)

Album:  McCartney II (1980)

A few weeks after John Lennon died on December 8th 1980 my Beatles kick was in full gear and my grandpa borrowed The Beatles Sgt Pepper and McCartney II from the Frances Morrison public library on vinyl and I listened to them for the first time in January 1981 at age 9.  This was the very first time I ever heard any songs by Paul McCartney and the first time I heard any of the songs from Sgt Pepper.

McCartney II is the third solo studio album by Paul McCartney, and the first since the formation of Wings in 1971. It was released in 1980, a year before the band's dissolution and while their future lay in limbo. The album is a significant departure for McCartney, as much of the album relies heavily on synthesisers and studio experimentation. The album was reissued on 13 June 2011 as part of the Paul McCartney Archive Collection.

McCartney II was released in mid-May to mixed reviews; many critics found the album, with its experimental, synth-based compositions and its handful of instrumentals, slight. That did not stop it from reaching #1 in the UK and #3 in the US. The next single, the introspective "Waterfalls", was a UK Top 10 hit, but failed to make an impact in the US. Despite its less-than-rapturous critical reaction, McCartney II has continued to remain a favourite of McCartney devotees.

THE BEATLES - GOLDEN SLUMBERS (1969)

Album:  Abbey Road (1969)

Great dramatic ending to their official final album together with my favorite airdrum solo's.   I first heard this song about 1982 at age 11.

"Golden Slumbers" is a song by The Beatles, part of the climactic medley on their 1969 album Abbey Road. The song begins the progression that leads to the end of the album and is followed by "Carry That Weight." The two songs were recorded together as a single piece, and both were written by Paul McCartney (credited to Lennon–McCartney), strings and brass arranged and scored by producer George Martin.

"Golden Slumbers" is based on the poem "Cradle Song", a lullaby by the dramatist Thomas Dekker. The poem appears in Dekker's 1603 comedy Patient Grissel. McCartney saw sheet music for Dekker's lullaby at his father's home in Liverpool, left on a piano by his stepsister Ruth McCartney. Unable to read music, he created his own music. McCartney uses the first stanza of the original poem, with minor word changes, adding to it a single lyric line repeated with minor variation. Abbey Road does not credit Dekker with the stanza or with the title

    OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN & ELO - XANADU (1980)
Xanadu" is the title song from the album Xanadu, the soundtrack to the 1980 film of the same name.

The song is performed by the Electric Light Orchestra and Olivia Newton-John. Newton-John sings the primary vocals, with ELO (Jeff Lynne) adding "parenthetic" vocals in the style of their other songs on the Xanadu soundtrack, along with providing the instrumentation. A rare collaboration for ELO, the single reached no.1 in several countries and was the band's only UK #1 single when it peaked there for two weeks in July 1980. The song peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US. This was the first song beginning with the letter 'X' to ever chart on the Billboard Hot 100 and it remained the only one until 2010's "X" by Xzibit.

Olivia Newton-John, AO, OBE (born 26 September 1948) is an English-Australian singer and actress. She is a four-time Grammy award winner who has amassed five No. 1 and ten other Top Ten Billboard Hot 100 singles and two No. 1 Billboard 200 solo albums. Eleven of her singles (including two platinum) and 14 of her albums (including two platinum and four double platinum) have been certified gold by the RIAA. Her music has been successful in multiple formats including pop, country and adult contemporary and has sold an estimated over 100 million albums worldwide. She co-starred with John Travolta in the film adaptation of the Broadway musical Grease, which featured one of the most successful film soundtracks in Hollywood history.

Newton-John has been a long-time activist for environmental and animal rights issues. Since surviving breast cancer in 1992, she has been an advocate for health awareness becoming involved with various charities, health products and fundraising efforts. Her business interests have included launching several product lines for Koala Blue and co-owning the Gaia Retreat & Spa in Australia

LISA STANSFIELD - ALL AROUND THE WORLD (1990) hit #3
All Around the World" is a song by Lisa Stansfield released in late 1989 for her album Affection. It is her biggest hit to date. Written and produced by Lisa Stansfield, Ian Devaney and Andy Morris, the debut solo single by Stansfield became a massive international hit.

It spent two weeks at #1 on the UK singles chart in November 1989 and reaching the top in 11 other countries. In April 1990, it peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 but is the third single by a white female singer to top the Billboard R&B chart after Little Peggy March's "I Will Follow Him" reached #1 in May 1963  and Teena Marie's "Ooo La La La" completed this feat for the second time in 1988. The track also topped the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart, and reached #7 on the Adult Contemporary chart.

Lisa Stansfield (born 11 April 1966) is an English singer and songwriter.   Her R&B vocal features and texture are similar to  that of her American contemporary and Arista label-mate, Taylor Dayne.

Her British band Blue Zone saw modest success with the single "Jackie". She then crossed over into the UK Top 40 singles chart as guest vocalist on Coldcut's record "People Hold On". She is probably best known internationally for her first UK number-one single, "All Around the World" (1989), which peaked at number three in the United States Billboard Hot 100 the following year. Other worldwide hits from her solo debut album Affection include "This Is the Right Time" (featuring a house music influence production by Coldcut with Mark Saunders), "Live Together", "What Did I Do to You" and "You Can't Deny It". "All Around the World" and "You Can't Deny It" both hit number one on the Billboard R&B chart. Affection went platinum in the United States and triple platinum in the UK selling over five million copies worldwide.

In 1990, Stansfield was among the high profile artists who participated in the Red Hot + Blue charity disc produced by the Red Hot Organization, which honoured Cole Porter's songwriting and benefitted AIDS research. She demonstrated her swing and jazz abilities on the song "Down in the Depths", which was one of few traditional renditions to appear on the album.

DAVID NAIL - RED LIGHT (2009)

Album:  I'm About To Come Alive (2008)

October 24th 2009 - my #1 favorite current Counry hit single for 13 weeks making it my #1 favorite country song of 2009.

December 21st 2009 - my #4 favorite daily song over Xmas 2009 and my 39th birthday

"Red Light" is a song co-written by Jonathan Singleton, Melissa Peirce and Dennis Matkosky, and recorded by country music artist David Nail. It is the second single released from his album I'm About to Come Alive, and the third single of his career. It has become Nail's first Top 10 country hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Red Light was Nail's highest-charting song on the Hot Country Songs chart for two years until Let It Rain went to number-one on January 21, 2012.

In the song, the male narrator's lover has announced her breakup from him. The narrator is expecting a different setting for his breakup, but instead is with her in the car at a "red light in the sunshine on a Sunday."

"Red Light" debuted at number 58 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in March 2009. The song became his first Top Ten hit in November 2009 and peaked at number 7 in December 2009. On the week ending October 10, 2009, the song debuted at number 95 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100

THE DELLS - DOES ANYBODY KNOW I'M HERE (1969)

Album:  Musical Menu (1969)

This song hit #38 nationally in the US during 1969.

May 9th 1989 - my #2 favorite daily song for 2 days at age 18 while taking extra high school classes the year after graduating.

The Dells are an American R&B and crossover musical group. Their successful recordings spanned more than four decades. Formed in 1952 after attending high school together, the Dells' repertoire has included doo-wop, jazz, soul, disco and contemporary rhythm and blues. Unlike many of their contemporaries, the group's lineup did not change much from 1960 and consisted, until 2009, of falsetto leader Johnny Carter (died August 21, 2009), baritone lead singer Marvin Junior and background singers Mickey McGill, Verne Allison and Chuck Barksdale. The Dells are 2004 inductees into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, and were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame the same year. One of the longest-running groups in music history, the Dells recorded and performed for almost 50 years without a single change in personnel

THE MUSIC MACHINE - TALK TALK (1967) hit #15
The Music Machine (1965–1969) was an American garage rock and psychedelic (sometimes referred to as garage punk) band from the late 1960s, headed by singer-songwriter Sean Bonniwell and based in Los Angeles. The band sound was often defined by fuzzy guitars and a Farfisa organ. Their original look consisted of all-black clothing, (dyed) black moptop hairstyles and a single black glove.

The group came together as The Ragamuffins in 1965, but became The Music Machine in 1966. In addition to Bonniwell, the original line-up consisted of Ron Edgar (drums), Mark Landon (guitar), Keith Olsen (bass), and Doug Rhodes (organ).

Their debut album, (Turn On) The Music Machine, was released in 1966 on the Original Sound label. Seven of the twelve tracks were originals, written by Bonniwell. One of these, "Talk Talk", became a Top 20 hit in the U.S. The follow-up single, "The People In Me", peaked at #66. Bonniwell blamed the weak showing of this single on a supposed feud between the band's manager and a top record executive. Four cover songs were included on this release, due to record company pressure.

After a promotional tour of the U.S., the rest of the original line-up (Edgar, Landon, Olsen, and Rhodes), left Bonniwell, due to internal conflicts. Rhodes and Edgar subsequently teamed with Curt Boettcher and others to record as part of The Ballroom and The Millennium.

In 1967, Music Machine (essentially only Bonniwell at this point) were signed to Warner Bros. and renamed The Bonniwell Music Machine. The name was changed to give more prominence to the band's core member, songwriter and vocalist. A self-titled LP was released that year, made up mostly of previously recorded singles with the original line-up. The recording spawned no big hits, despite the inclusion of a few more pop-oriented songs.

THE 5TH DIMENSION - GO WHERE YOU WANNA GO (1967) hit #16

Up, Up and Away is the debut album by American pop group The 5th Dimension, released in 1967 (see 1967 in music). The title track was released as a single and became a major pop hit.

The 5th Dimension is an American popular music vocal group, whose repertoire also includes pop, R&B, soul, and jazz.

Originally known as The Hi-Fi's, the group changed its name to The 5th Dimension in late 1966 and was best-known during the late 1960s and early 1970s for popularizing the hits "Up, Up and Away", "Stoned Soul Picnic", "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In", "Wedding Bell Blues", "One Less Bell to Answer", "(Last Night) I Didn't Get to Sleep at All", and The Magic Garden LP.

The five original members were Billy Davis, Jr., Florence LaRue, Marilyn McCoo, Lamonte McLemore, and Ron Townson. They have recorded for several different labels over their long careers. Their first work appeared on the Soul City label, which was started by Imperial Records/United Artists Records recording artist Johnny Rivers. The group would later record for Bell/Arista Records, ABC Records, and Motown Records.
