New books are being added continually in this series by Terry Hoknes at hoknes@hotmail.com  (306) 270-9387

Terry Hoknes has been part of the music community of Saskatoon for 40 years (first performing in the musical Scrooge at the Centennial Auditorium in 1982)

Terry has now performed over 2,000 music concerts during his career.  His father Robert Hoknes has been performing music as well since 1968

Terry's grandmother Jeanne Walters was involved heavily in the drama, art and music communities of Saskatoon for 80 years and passed away in 2018 at age 96!

This Saskatoon cultural project is very thorough and is being published in a series of books   The first books released deal with the 1950's and 1960's with a complete analysis of the culture of Saskatoon. Each book contains hundreds of original advertisements and articles from the Star Phoenix and The Sheaf newspapers in Saskatoon.  This is an important project to document our cities history in all forms such as music, drama, art, dance, city culture and growth and important news stories unique to Saskatoon. This series of books is the ultimate time capsule.

There are up to 4 books planned for each decade.  The bulk of time needed to create this project is the research and collecting and sorting of the thousands of articles that Terry has to find and compile.  This book series is the most thorough collection ever of Saskatoon history.  This is the only chance for a project like this to ever be compiled and published so Terry wants it to be very detailed. This book series will be the ultimate encyclopedia of Saskatoon culture and pay tribute to all of those who made an impact in the development of Saskatoon. Its a great resource and history book for the city, the arts community, libraries, and the participants and their families.

The master goal is to index the entire 20th Century in Saskatoon.   The Star Phoenix newspaper published approximately 1 million pages during the 20th century.   Terry is reading and indexing every historically important and interesting article and/or advertisement of the entire century.  The project was started January 2018 and is Terry's full time non-paid job.  Terry has gone through 750,000 pages so far and has indexed 86,000 articles of interest so far for this project.  This is very time consuming and basically is Terry's focus in life.  Keeping a good pace of reading through newspapers 40 hours per week he has planned it will take 4 years to completely go through 100 years worth of newspapers.  To gain interest in Saskatoon history Terry hosts a Saskatoon History group on facebook where he promotes vintage newspaper articles posting 60-100 every single day and has gained a readership of 7,000 fans so far.

Terry has a large network of people he is in regular contact with and is very well known in the community as a music performer and city historian. This project is a labor of love and a true dedication to the talented individuals who make up our cities history. These books will be an amazing legacy to document an important time in Saskatoon's history and development. The books will be of interest to anyone involved in the arts or their relatives and/or interest in Saskatoon's history. This is a great resource book for future generations and an amazing reference tool for libraries and research.  Terry has self published other books in various topics in the past.  These books will be marketed through TV, radio and social media. The project has already been a feature news story on Television and in the newspaper.   Terry also started a video documentary series interviewing important people in Saskatoon. The series of interviews can be viewed on YouTube.   This is a non-profit project due to the small print runs of the books.

Terry expects to index about 95,000 newspaper clippings by the time he is done.  He hopes to complete 75 books in total in this epic series of Saskatoon history !
