THE ZODIAC - CANCER (THE MOON CHILD) (1967)

Album:  Cosmic Sounds (1967)

I had originally bought this psychedelic album at a garage sale about 1984 at age 13.  I eventually found a very rare reel to reel copy of this album.

Mort Garson (20 July 1924 – 4 January 2008) who was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, was an electronic musician best known for his albums that predominantly feature Moog synthesizers. Is recognized for his compositions near on the Occultism theme.  Highly prized albums among collectors and exotica fans are Garson's electronic albums from the mid to late 1960s. The Zodiac : Cosmic Sounds - Celestial Counterpoint with Words and Music, a suite of Garson originals released on Elektra Records includes tracks for each of the 12 signs of the zodiac, and features Paul Beaver on a variety of electronic instruments with voice-overs by Cyrus Faryar. Zodiac was the first album recorded on the West Coast to make use of Robert Moog's new Moog synthesizer. Another moog album, Electronic Hair Pieces, covered songs from the hippie-influenced musical, Hair. The mod album cover art for Electronic Hair Pieces featured a model with a wired-up skull; liner notes were provided by Tom Smothers of the Smothers Brothers. Another album, The Wozard of Iz, a psychedelic satire based on The Wizard of Oz featured Bernie Krause providing a rich array of environmental sound effects and Suzy Jane Hokum voicing Dorothy. (The widely repeated claim 'Suzy Jane Hokum' is a pseudonym for Nancy Sinatra is untrue.)   With the success of the original Zodiac LP, Garson went on to compose and arrange a 12 album series of zodiac albums for A&M Records, one album for each sign. Like Zodiac, each album contained original tunes with heavy use of electronics. In 1974, Mort Garson composed the electronic music score for the 18th Annual Grammy Award winning Best Children's Recording of The Little Prince narrated by Richard Burton. Plantasia, which was released in 1976, was an album of Moog compositions to be played for growing plants. Garson also released a record of music-and-moans to capitalize on the best-seller at the time, The Sensuous Woman by "Z". He wrote an electronic Black Mass album under the pseudonym Lucifer that again featured the Moog. Garson followed Black Mass with an album titled Ataraxia designed to accompany meditations to the mantra of the listener's choice.

THE RUTLES - WITH A GIRL LIKE YOU (1978)

Album: The Rutles (1978)

I bought this album new on cassette at Zellers in December 1984 and loved putting on the headphones and jamming along on the drums with it at age 13 in Grade 9 in the basement at 410 Ruth Street where we lived 1982-1991.  The songs were new songs written and inspired to sound like The Beatles using basic musical ideas and varied from actual Beatles songs.  The funny thing is that I think all of The Rutles songs are better than The Beatles songs that they parody.

The Rutles is a soundtrack album to the 1978 telemovie All You Need Is Cash. The album contains over 14 of the tongue-in-cheek, pastiches of Beatles' songs that were featured in the film.

Multiple listenings are required to discern all the sources referenced in titles, lyrics, melodies, and song structures. The primary creative force of the Rutles music was Neil Innes, the sole composer and arranger of the songs. Innes had been the 'seventh' member of Monty Python, as well as one of the main artists behind the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band in the late 1960s, who had been featured in the real Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour movie performing "Death Cab For Cutie".

Innes himself credits the three musicians he recruited to assist him on the project as having been enormously important in helping him capture the feel of The Beatles. Guitarist/singer Ollie Halsall and drummer John Halsey had played together in the groups Timebox and Patto. Multi-instrumentalist Rikki Fataar had played with The Flames before joining the Beach Boys in the early 1970s.

THE DOOBIE BROTHERS - LONG TRAIN RUNNING (1973) hit #8
Long Train Runnin'" (or "Long Train Running") is a song written by musician Tom Johnston and recorded by The Doobie Brothers. It was included on the band's 1973 album The Captain and Me and released as a single, becoming a top-ten hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number eight. This song became very famous for its intro with the guitar.

Nearly twenty years later, "Long Train Runnin'" became a hit in the UK twice. In 1991, the song was covered by English girl group Bananarama, and in 1993, the Doobie Brothers version was remixed and hit the top ten.

The song is sometimes titled "Long Train Runnin' (Without Love)" due to the words "without love" being sung twice in the chorus".

The tune evolved from an untitled and mostly ad-libbed jam that the Doobies developed onstage years before it was finally recorded. Its working title, according to Johnston, was "Rosie Pig Moseley" and later "Osborn". "I didn't want to cut it," Johnston later confessed. "...I just considered it a bar song without a lot of merit. Teddy [Templeman], on the other hand, thought it had some." Templeman convinced Johnston to write words to the song.

Johnston performed the signature harmonica solo as well as the lead vocal and the distinctive, rhythmic guitar strumming that propels the song. In an interview with Songfacts Johnston revealed that he "wrote the words sitting in the bathroom at Amigo Studios" in Burbank, California.

ATLANTA RHYTHM SECTION - SO INTO YOU (1977) hit #7

The Atlanta Rhythmic Section, sometimes abbreviated ARS, is an American southern rock band. In 1970 former members of the Candymen and the Classics IV joined together and became the session band for the newly opened Studio One in Doraville, Georgia.

ARS faced increasing pressure for sales and chart success, and this came to a head in 1976. They had been taking three months to record each album, but now were given an ultimatum from their record company to deliver the next album in 45 days----or else. While road weary from touring non-stop for most of the year, they nevertheless went back to Studio One and wrote, recorded, and produced the next album, A Rock and Roll Alternative in 30 days. Whether it was the deadline pressure or the natural evolution of the group, they indeed created a rock and roll alternative that would carry them to new heights. The band attained a new level of critical acclaim and popular appeal with this album when it was released in December 1976. It included seven originals and a cover of a blues classic, "Outside Woman Blues", previously recorded by Cream. While a few songs featured shorter arrangements similar to the last album, most of the songs went back to the longer format of previous albums. The first single from Alternative, "Neon Nites", got close to the Top 40 . But it was the next single, "So Into You", that proved to be the breakthrough. It rose to number seven on the charts and was a staple of rock radio during the spring of 1977. The album made it to the Top 10 on the charts and went Gold. Popularity now carried ARS out of the clubs and into stadiums. On September 4, 1977 they played their biggest show yet, the Dog Day Rockfest at Atlanta's Grant Field on the campus of Georgia Tech. Heart and Foreigner were the opening acts and Bob Seger co-headlined. After this point, for the next several years, ARS was on the road for 250 plus shows a year. And when they came off the road, they were right back in the studio working five days a week. For the first time, the band had popular success to build on, but this also meant increased expectations to top themselves.

    PAUL CARRACK - DON'T SHED A TEAR (1988) hit #9
Don't Shed a Tear" is a song by English singer-musician, Paul Carrack, from his third solo album, One Good Reason. It was released as a single in 1987 and became his biggest U.S. hit, peaking at number nine on the pop chart.

The tune was written by Canadian singer-songwriter/guitarist Eddie Schwartz, along with fellow songwriter Rob Friedman. Schwartz, who was fresh off of writing "Hit Me with Your Best Shot" for Pat Benatar, later decided to record the song with a new band he had formed with Lenny Zakatek and Dave Tyson. However, the entire project was ultimately scrapped after failed negotiations with potential manager Tommy Mottola. Several years later, the song reached the hands of Paul Carrack's producer, and Carrack ultimately recorded the song.

"Don't Shed a Tear" entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number 72 in November 1987. It peaked at number nine in February 1988, becoming Carrack's biggest U.S. hit as a solo artist. It spent 23 weeks on the Hot 100, including thirteen weeks inside the top 40 section of the chart. It also reached number five on the Album Rock Tracks chart, and number six on the Singles Sales chart.

Elsewhere, the song peaked at number 20 in the Netherlands, but was not as successful in the UK, reaching number 60 in March 1989. Mike DeGagne of Allmusic called "Don't Shed a Tear" a highlight of the One Good Reason album, and said the song is "bolstered by its subtle, laid-back groove with a start-and-stop tempo

    MARIO WINANS - I DON'T WANNA KNOW (2004) hit #2
I Don't Wanna Know" is the title of a song by American R&B artist Mario Winans, featuring a rap by P. Diddy and sampling from Enya's song "Boadicea". It reached number-one in the United Kingdom and in Netherlands, and #2 (for 8 consecutive weeks) in the United States, and remains Winans' only major success to date. Its eight weeks at #2 also put the song in joint fifth place for the most weeks at #2 by a song which did not go to #1, behind Foreigner's "Waiting for a Girl Like You", Missy Elliott's "Work It", Donna Lewis's "I Love You Always Forever" and Shania Twain's "You're Still the One".
Mario Winans is an American R&B singer, songwriter, music producer, and multi-instrumentalist. Born Mario Brown, he is the son of gospel recording artist Vickie Winans (née Bowman) and her first husband, Bishop Ronald Brown. He is also the stepson of his mother's second husband, gospel singer, Pastor Marvin Winans whom she married in 1978. Marvin and Vickie Winans had a son, Marvin Winans Jr. (Mario's half brother.) Vickie and Marvin Winans divorced in 1995 and she has since remarried.

The first single "I Don't Wanna Know" was based on a sample of the Fugees' 1996 hit single "Ready Or Not", which itself was based on a slowed-down sample of the instrumental track "Boadicea" by Enya from her 1987 self-titled album. Enya and her representatives became angry since Winans did not seek her approval for the sample, as he was unaware that the Fugees sample he had used had itself been a sample. So, a compromise was reached to credit the single as "Mario Winans featuring P. Diddy and Enya".  The song features a rap by P. Diddy and radio programmers and club DJs started playing the track when it started appearing on mixtapes. The song was released as the single in early 2004 and became a worldwide hit going to #1 in Germany and on the rhythmic top 40 radio chart in the United States; to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, on the US R&B/Hip-Hop singles chart, and on the world internet download charts; and to #3 on a composite world R&B chart (based on the R&B charts in the US, UK, Germany, France, and Australia) and on both the Australian and Norwegian singles charts. It also reached the top ten on a composite European singles chart.

NICKI MINAJ featuring DRAKE - MOMENT FOR LIFE (2011) hit #13

Moment 4 Life" is a song by Trinidadian recording artist Nicki Minaj featuring Canadian rapper Drake. It serves as the third single from Minaj's debut album Pink Friday (2010). The song was produced by T-Minus and written by both artists. The song is inspired by a story Minaj created, in which two kids grow up together sharing the same dream of becoming famous rappers, and create this song while living out their dreams together. It peaked at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topping Billboard's Hot Rap Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts. It also saw success internationally, becoming a top 40 hit in Canada, Ireland, and the United Kingdom, as well as charting in Belgium and France

The song debuted on the U.S. Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs at number 56 and the U.S. Hot Rap Songs at number 17 due to strong digital sales and heavy radio play, following the album's release. It became Minaj's first number-one song on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and also managed to top the Rap Songs chart. On the Billboard Hot 100, "Moment 4 Life" peaked at number 13 making it her highest-charting song on the chart, until her new US single, "Super Bass", peaked number 3. As of April 2011, the single has sold 1,000,000 digital copies in the US alone. In the UK, the single debuted on the singles chart at number 135, in its second week it rose to 55 due to strong digital sales. On February 13, 2011 the single entered the UK top 40 at a current peak of 22, giving Nicki her second UK top 40 single (after her joint single "Check It Out" with will.i.am peaked at 11). It peaked at number 9 on the UK R&B Chart, becoming her third top 30 urban single to do so and her first top 10 UK R&B hit

TERRY HOKNES - WISE BLOOD (1990) Demo Opus #674

November 5th 1990 - my #1 favorite daily song for 7 days.  This was the first time I ever let my own song and recording become my favorite #1 song and the first time one of my songs made my top 10 songs chart ever.

I wrote my first song in 1982 at age 11 in Grade 6.     I would sporadically write 18 few songs over the next 4 years.  Starting with my 19th song (Opus #19) I began writing on a very regular basis starting in December 1986 in Grade 11 at Aden Bowman.  This included writing over 58 songs with my best friend Nels Krauss over the period of 1986-1992.  I wrote 97 songs in 1987 and then 215 songs in 1988.   By the time I graduated high school at age 17 I was up to Opus #268.   I wrote another 178 songs in 1989.   By the time I celebrated my 19th birthday I was up to Opus #524.   At that time I was in first year University living in Muenster, SK in residence at St Peters College at the monastery.  I met a poet from New York named Philip Murray who I collaborated with writing music to his words 91 songs in total.  I wrote my 1000th song the week I turned 25 in January 1996.

    A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS - I RAN (1982) hit #9
I Ran" (also released as "I Ran (So Far Away)") is a song by English New Wave band A Flock of Seagulls. It was released on their debut album A Flock of Seagulls in 1982 and was its most successful single, reaching number 9 in the United States and number 1 in Australia.

The single was promoted by a distinctive music video in which the band members performed in a room covered in aluminum foil and mirrors. The cameras used to film the video are clearly visible in many of the background reflections, their stands also covered in foil. The video is a homage to Brian Eno and Robert Fripp's (No Pussyfooting) album cover, which was also respectively portrayed by The Strokes for their single, "The End Has No End" two decades later. The video received heavy rotation on MTV in the summer of 1982, and helped the single to become a hit. The video features a different edit of "I Ran" from the album version; the introduction was greatly shortened.

The band toured the United States extensively to promote the single, supporting Squeeze on their 1982 tour. As well as reaching #9 on the Billboard Hot 100, "I Ran" peaked at #3 on the Mainstream Rock chart and #8 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart. Subsequently the album reached number 10 on the Billboard 200.

Despite success in the States and Australia, the single did not enjoy similar success in the band's home country (United Kingdom), failing to make the top 40.

In an interview on the VH1 special 100 Greatest Songs of the '80s, Mike Score said that he resents the song, but plays it live because people enjoy it. "I Ran" was listed at #55 on the countdown. In VH1's 100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders of the 80s, the song was listed at #2, with Mike Score's interview played again.

Although considered an '80s New Wave classic, the song experienced somewhat of a revival in 2002 as the signature theme for the video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City; being played during the game's television commercials and during gameplay as one of the songs in the playlist for radio station Wave 103.

THE LOST PROPHETS - LAST TRAIN HOME (2004)

May 1st 2004 - my #1 favorite current mainstream rock hit for 6 weeks

May 1st 2004 - my #1 favorite current modern rock hit for 6 weeks

Last Train Home" is the second single from Start Something, the second album by the Welsh rock band Lostprophets. This single is the band's joint highest charting in the UK to date, tied with "Rooftops (A Liberation Broadcast)". It remains their most successful in the USA.

"Last Train Home" was released in the spring of 2004 and became the most successful song from Start Something on the rock charts and arguably the band's most recognizable and popular song. The song peaked at number one on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart and number ten on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. "Last Train Home" is the second single to ever chart in the U.S., the first one being "Shinobi vs. Dragon Ninja". The song won the Kerrang! Award for Best Single.

Johnny Loftus of Allmusic said "'Last Train Home' was an absolute masterpiece of pop single mixing board surgery, flawlessly, brazenly binding the properties of three of California's most marketable acts into one monster of an alternative rock anthem, sung by a bunch of immaculately T-shirted dudes from Pontypridd. Beginning with an instrumental run through its unstoppable chorus, the song drifted into faraway echoes of piano as vocalist Ian Watkins emoted vaguely meaningful lyrics like 'Love was once apart / But now it's disappeared.'"

Part of the music video was shot in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In the video Ian Watkins wears the Pittsburgh Strikers T-shirt (an amateur football club in Western Pennsylvania).

According to the official charts the song sold approximately 110,000 copies.

GUY MITCHELL - SINGING THE BLUES (1956)

Great song that I came to really appreciate after Paul McCartney covered it in 1991 on his Unplugged CD.   Great early fun rock - another great dance tune I used to perform live for years in the 1990's.

"Singing the Blues" is a popular song written by Melvin Endsley and published in 1956. (It is not related to the song "Singin' the Blues," written by Sam M. Lewis, Joe Young, Con Conrad and J. Russel Robinson and recorded by Frank Trumbauer and Bix Beiderbecke in 1927.)

The best-known recording was released in October 1956 by Guy Mitchell and spent nine weeks at #1 on the U.S. Billboard chart from December 8, 1956 to February 2, 1957. An example of the U.S. recording is on Columbia #40769,dated 1956,with the Ray Conniff Orchestra. Mitchell's version was also number 1 in the U.K. for three (non-consecutive) weeks in early 1957.

Two other charting versions of the song were released almost simultaneously with Mitchell's, one by U.K. cover specialist Tommy Steele (with the Steelmen) and the other by U.S. country singer Marty Robbins.

Tommy Steele's version of "Singing The Blues" made #1 in the UK Singles Chart for one week on 11 January 1957, sandwiched by two of the weeks that Guy Mitchell's version of the same song topped the charts. Steele's recording of the song was not a chart success in the US.

The Marty Robbins version made it to number one on the Billboard C&W Best Sellers chart for 13 weeks in late 1956 and early 1957 and peaked at number seventeen on the U.S. pop charts.

SARAH SLEAN - SWEET ONES (2003)

June 28th 2003 - my #7 favorite daily song for 33 days at age 32 while shopping for my first home and staying at Grandmas after moving back from Dalmeny, SK.

Sarah Hope Slean (born 21 June 1977 in Pickering, Ontario) is a Canadian singer-songwriter, musician, poet, visual artist and occasional actress. She has released eleven albums to date (including EPs and live albums).

Slean recorded her first EP Universe (1997) at the age of nineteen. It was followed by Blue Parade in 1998. Night Bugs was her first major label album, co-produced by Slean and Hawksley Workman, and released by WEA in Canada and Atlantic Records in the United States. It was heavily inspired by cabaret music.

On 28 September 2004, Slean released her fourth album, Day One. Here Slean's piano takes a less important spot for the first time in her career. The focus is more on beats, rhythms and guitar, which is evident in the album's first single, "Lucky Me". The up-tempo title track "Day One", and "Mary", a song about Slean's grandmother, were released as the second and third singles.

In October 2006, Slean released a mostly-live album, Orphan Music, which consists of songs recorded live at Toronto's Harbourfront Theatre and the Vancouver East Cultural Centre. Other new tracks featuring Slean and the piano were recorded at DNA Recording Facility in Toronto and Kensaltown Studios in the UK.

STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN - COLD SHOT (1984)

Album:  Couldn't Stand The Weather (1984)

Couldn't Stand the Weather is the second studio album by American blues rock band Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. It was released on May 15, 1984 by Epic Records as the follow-up to the band's critically and commercially successful 1983 album Texas Flood. Recording sessions took place in January 1984 at the Power Station in New York City. Vaughan wrote half of Couldn't Stand the Weather's eight tracks. The album went to #31 on the Billboard 200 chart and the music video for "Couldn't Stand the Weather" received regular rotation on MTV. In 1999, a reissue of the album was released, which contains an audio interview segment and studio outtakes. In 2010, the album was reissued again as the Legacy Edition, containing two CDs that includes a previously unreleased studio outtake and a concert at The Spectrum in Montreal from August 17, 1984

Stephen "Stevie" Ray Vaughan (October 3, 1954 – August 27, 1990) was an American guitarist, singer-songwriter, and record producer. Often referred to by his initials SRV, Vaughan is best known as a founding member and leader of Double Trouble. Together with drummer Chris Layton and bassist Tommy Shannon, they ignited the blues revival of the 1980s. With a career spanning seven years, Vaughan and Double Trouble consistently sold out concerts while their albums frequently went gold

THE STRAWBS -  WHERE IS THIS DREAM OF YOUR YOUTH (1970)

Album:  Just A Collection Of Antiques (1970)

February 2nd 1990 - my #4 favorite daily song for 1 day at age 19 while I was in 1st year University living in Muenster, SK at St Peters College.

I became a fan of The Strawbs in December 1984 at age 13 after borrowing The Best Of Strawbs cassette tape from the JS Wood Library due to their connection to my favorite band at the time Yes which they both shared keyboardist Rick Wakeman.  The Strawbs would be one of the most important groups to me from 1984 to 1991 in my teenage years.    I bought this album used possibly around 1986.

Just a Collection of Antiques and Curios is a live album by English band Strawbs recorded at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London on 11 July 1970. The album reached number 27 in the UK Album Charts.  The band line-up had changed dramatically from that of the previous album, Dragonfly. Only founder-members Dave Cousins and Tony Hooper remained, double bass player Ron Chesterman and cellist Claire Deniz being replaced by rhythm section John Ford and Richard Hudson. Rick Wakeman also became a full-time member. Thus the band changed from being a folk quartet to a rock quintet.  The concert was instrumental in bringing Rick Wakeman's virtuosity to the attention of the music media, who prophesied super-stardom for the keyboard player

SEDUCTION - YOU'RE MY ONE AND ONLY TRUE LOVE (1989) hit #23

Album: Nothing Matters Without Love (1989)

May 9th 1990 - my #7 favorite daily song for 3 days at age 19 when moving back home after a year at Muenster, SK.

"(You're My One and Only) True Love" was a hit single by Seduction. It peaked at #23 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, #56 on the R&B chart, and #3 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart. It was an unexpected success, achieving Gold certification in the United States. This result ultimately opened the door for producers Robert Clivillés and David Cole of the C+C Music Factory to release Seduction's first album, Nothing Matters Without Love.

The song featured uncredited lead vocals by house music singer Martha Wash. In the music video, Wash's vocals were lip-synched by Seduction's April Harris. Wash herself, angry about not receiving proper credit for her work on the song, had to resort to legal action, and successfully sued Sony Records to receive full credit as well as her share of the royalties.

Nothing Matters Without Love was the debut album released by the dance-R&B group Seduction. Released in October 1989, the album was a modest hit, reaching #36 on the Billboard pop albums chart and #28 on the Billboard R&B albums chart. The album spawned five hit singles: "(You're My One and Only) True Love", "Two to Make It Right", "Heartbeat", "Could This Be Love", and "Breakdown". By the end of 1990, the album was certified platinum by the RIAA. All songs were written and produced by Robert Clivilles and David Cole

Seduction was a female dance-pop, urban contemporary, house, and freestyle trio from New York assembled and produced by Robert Clivillés and David Cole (later of C+C Music Factory), consisting of members April Harris (born March 25, 1967), Michelle Visage (September 20, 1968), and Idalis DeLeon (born June 15, 1966).

Originally intended as a studio project, and prior to any assemblage of the aforementioned trio, the first track produced, "Seduction" (later renamed "Seduction's Theme"), featured vocals by Carol Cooper, and was released to dance clubs. Against its producers' expectations, it ended up becoming a hit. Envisioning a potential hit phenomenon, Cole and Clivillés set to the task of assembling a group of girls who displayed talent, sex appeal, and multiformat potential. Visage, DeLeon and Harris were chosen and assembled for the recording of the album Nothing Matters Without Love and subsequent singles. Their biggest hit came in early 1990 with "Two to Make It Right", a No. 2 pop hit. In mid-1990 DeLeon left the group and was replaced by Sinoa Loren (born December 6, 1966). After a pair of hits with this line-up, the group disbanded in 1991.

    TIFFANY - SHOULD'VE BEEN ME (1987)

Album:  Tiffany (1987)

February 3rd 1988 - my #8 favorite daily song for 5 days after buying Tiffany's debut album on cassette.

Valerie and I went to see Tiffany in concert in April 2011 in New York City and filmed part of the show.

Tiffany Renee Darwish (born October 2, 1971), known popularly as Tiffany, is an American singer and former teen icon. She is most notable for her 1987 remake of "I Think We're Alone Now", originally recorded by Tommy James and the Shondells in 1967. Released as the second single from her eponymous album, Tiffany, the song quickly became a teen anthem. Thanks to an original mall tour, "The Beautiful You: Celebrating The Good Life Shopping Mall Tour '87", Tiffany became a pop sensation; both the single and the album peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200 charts, respectively. The singles, "Could've Been" and "I Saw Him Standing There", a feminine cover version of The Beatles' "I Saw Her Standing There", followed soon after, with the former also claiming the number one position on the Billboard Hot 100.

Tiffany is the eponymous debut album by American pop singer Tiffany, released in May 1987. Tiffany had begun working with manager/producer George Tobin several years earlier, with some of the tracks recorded as early as when she was 12 years old, in 1984.   As a novel means of promoting the album and artist, Tiffany was sent on a "shopping mall tour" which was called "The Beautiful You: Celebrating The Good Life Shopping Mall Tour '87". Tiffany's tour included performances in various malls across the United States, at first to small, indifferent audiences, but by the end to large crowds as her fame grew

TERRY HOKNES - IF THE JUKEBOX WAS A TIME CLOCK (2008) lyrics by ?

I have collaborated with many songwriters and my favorite is to work with strong lyricists that I then have control to be creative musically come up with everything.  So in this case I wrote the music, recorded all vocals and all instruments.

    KLAATU - TOKEYMOR FIELD (1978)

Album:  Sir Army Suit (1978)

I discovered Klaatu on March 21st 1985 (Klaatu day) age 14 in Grade 9 with the album Hope.  I quickly went out and bought all their albums in 1985.  I might have bought them all at Nudon Book & Records shop at 1111 Louise Ave across from McDonalds.  (I bought at least 100 albums there between 1984 and 1988.  Unfortunately I had no daily song charts during the first run of promotion in 1985 to show my first appreciation for the individual songs.

March 26th 1989 - my #6 favorite daily song for 1 day at age 18 the year after graduating high school on the celebration of Klaatu day 4th anniversary.

Sir Army Suit is the third and antepenultimate album recorded by the Canadian progressive rock band Klaatu. It was different from their two previous albums, 3:47 EST and Hope, adopting more of a pop feel (with one song, "Juicy Luicy", being a disco song). Many of these songs were hold-overs from early demos the band made pre-fame and were revived because band member John Woloschuk had spent a year writing and arranging the "Hope" album leaving him artistically drained. The band's other main songwriter, Dee Long, picked up the ball with many new compositions and ultimately co-produced and engineered the record while the band's regular producer, Terry Brown, was busy working with Rush and Max Webster.

An animated video was released for the album's opening track, "A Routine Day," one of six animated song videos created for the group's ambitious, but never completed, Happy New Year, Planet Earth half-hour animated special.   This is the only original Klaatu album whose cover was not painted by Ted Jones; the cover of Sir Army Suit was painted by Ian Thomas Band keyboardist Hugh Syme, mainly known for album cover work with Rush. The cover represented the first crack in the group's notorious anonymity since all three members appeared on the back cover (the front cover features a self-portrait of Hugh Syme and, ironically, Klaatu's previous graphic artist Ted Jones).

TERRY HOKNES - THE BALLAD OF THE PARTICIPANT OBSERVER (1992) Opus #530

Lyrics by Philip Murray

In 1992 age 21 I went and packaged up very first official release album on cassette called COOL ALL OVER.  It featured all my original songs and a weird bunch of genres.  It was reviewed in an issue of the SOMA newspaper in 1992 by Brent Pomeroy.  He liked the musicianship but thought the vocals need work.  The album was recorded primitively on a new 4 track cassette tape recorder I had bought and recorded this album while renting at 314 Cumberland Ave
