| THE BEATLES - YOU WON'T SEE ME (1965) Album: Rubber Soul (1965)
You Won't See Me" is a song by
The Beatles, from the album
Rubber Soul. Though credited to
Lennon–McCartney, it was written by
Paul McCartney. The song is a rare instance of McCartney
singing a lower harmony to Lennon and Harrison's higher
harmonies.
The song is about a crisis in McCartney's relationship with his then-girlfriend Jane Asher. She was rejecting him by not returning phone calls and ignoring him — for once, he was in a vulnerable position. The more biting tone of the song marks a change away from his earlier, happier love songs. "You Won't See Me" was recorded during the last session for Rubber Soul on the night of November 11, 1965. The deadline for completing the album was up and the band needed to record three songs that evening to wrap up the album. As a result, they cut the song in only two takes. At 3:22, the song was the longest that The Beatles had recorded to that point and marked a trend by Bob Dylan and others at the time to start writing longer songs. Mal "Organ" Evans (one of The Beatles' roadies throughout their career) is credited on the album sleeve as having played Hammond organ on this track, his contribution consisting solely of an A note quietly held throughout the last part of the song. "You Won't See Me" was never a part of The Beatles' concert repertoire, but McCartney played the song live during his 2005-2006 concert tour |
| TERRY HOKNES - GRAVEYARD SHIFT ON MARS (1994) Opus #866 Check out the cat-like vocals at the end of the song ! I wrote my first song in 1982 at age 11 in Grade 6. I would sporadically write 18 few songs over the next 4 years. Starting with my 19th song (Opus #19) I began writing on a very regular basis starting in December 1986 in Grade 11 at Aden Bowman. This included writing over 58 songs with my best friend Nels Krauss over the period of 1986-1992. I wrote 97 songs in 1987 and then 215 songs in 1988. By the time I graduated high school at age 17 I was up to Opus #268. I wrote another 178 songs in 1989. By the time I celebrated my 19th birthday I was up to Opus #524. At that time I was in first year University living in Muenster, SK in residence at St Peters College at the monastery. I met a poet from New York named Philip Murray who I collaborated with writing music to his words 91 songs in total. I wrote my 1000th song the week I turned 25 in January 1996. |
| JOHN LENNON - HOLD ON (1970) Album: Plastic Ono Band (1970) I might have bought this album as early as 1981 at age 10 in Grade 5 as I think it was likely one of the first albums by John that I purchased.
Hold On" is a song from the album
John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band by
John Lennon. It features only vocals,
tremolo guitar, drums, and bass guitar, typical of the
sparse arrangements Lennon favoured at the time. In the
middle of the song, Lennon mutters the word "cookie",
imitating the
Cookie Monster from the US children's television show
Sesame Street. On the 2000 reissue of John
Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, "Hold On" features a slightly
longer introduction. The original version was restored on
the 2010 reissue.
This song was sampled extensively on the track "Hold on John" by hip-hop group Johnson&Jonson, from their self-titled album |
| PAUL McCARTNEY & WINGS - DON'T LET IT BRING YOU DOWN (1978) Album: London Town (1978) I dont remember when I first got this album but possibly 1984 at age 13. This has always been my least favorite album by Wings.
London Town is the sixth studio album by the
band
Wings, released in 1978. Recording the album was a
long and tumultuous project which saw the loss of two band
members, the birth of a baby and the release of the then
best-selling single in
British history. Wings band member
Denny Laine covered "Children Children" and "Deliver
Your Children" in 2007 on his album Performs the Hits of
Wings. After some final overdubbing in January 1978,
London Town was completed and preceded by the US #1 "With
a Little Luck" that March, while the album was released
a week later. The album also features the song "Girlfriend"
which was also recorded by American pop star Michael
Jackson, who featured it on his 1979 album Off the Wall.
London Town generally fared well with the critics and
in the charts, reaching #4 in the UK and #2 in the US where
it sold over one million copies and went platinum. But after
its strong start, it did not have the staying power of
Wings' previous releases, with subsequent singles "I've
Had Enough" and the title track becoming small hits.
Although the advent of
punk music (which sent the music industry into a period
of change) would certainly have contributed to the slightly
smaller sales of London Town, the album is now
considered to mark the end of Wings' commercial peak and the
beginning of a minor commercial slump for McCartney. Paul McCartney was reportedly displeased with
Capitol Records in the US, where "Mull of Kintyre"
flopped (its B-Side, "Girls School," did make a modest dent
in the Top 40, reaching #33), and was further dismayed at
what he viewed as lacklustre promotion for London Town.
With his contract at an end, he promptly signed up with
Columbia Records for North America only (remaining with
EMI
worldwide) and would stay there until 1984, before returning
to
Capitol in the US.

| SPIRIT - NEW DOPE IN TOWN (1969) Album: Clear (1969) February 21st 1993 - my #7 favorite daily song for 16 days at age 22 in 4th year University. The Beatles, Spirit and Yes are my 3 favorite bands of all time. I discovered Spirit in February 1988 at age 17 when I took a chance picking up a copy of their album 12 Dreams of Dr Sardonicus for $2.00 at Tramps record store downtown. They would go on to have more influence on my songwriting and overall varied taste in music as an adult than any other group. I discovered Spirit later than I had with The Beatles and Yes. The great thing to note is that my entire journey discovering their music has been documented from day 1 as I was already listing my daily favorite group, album and song by 1987. Clear was the third Spirit album, written largely in the wake of their work on the soundtrack to the 1968 film Model Shop. Several of the band members have said that they felt there wasn't enough time for developing the album after releasing two albums in 1968, recording a soundtrack and constantly touring, but a growing number of fans feel that it is one of their finest, if not the finest, album the group would ever make. Possibly because of the rushed work on the album, there is a larger reliance upon instrumental work and the jazz backgrounds of several members than any of their other albums, perhaps most exemplified by the three instrumental pieces penned by John Locke. It also features their sound gaining depth and sprawling out even more than it previously had, as they even attempt everything from the bluesy "So Little Time To Fly" to tightly constructed multi-part songs like "Dark Eyed Woman" and "New Dope In Town". Stylistically, "Clear" is a precursor to the band's next album, Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus. |
| LED ZEPPELIN - BABY BABY I'M GONNA LEAVE YOU (1969) Album: Led Zeppelin (1969)
The band was inspired to cover the song after
hearing Joan Baez's version. Both guitarist
Jimmy Page and singer
Robert Plant were fans of Baez. Baez's
original album had indicated no writing credit,
and Led Zeppelin credited the song as "Trad.
arr. Page". In the 1980s, Bredon was made aware
of Led Zeppelin's version of the song. Since
1990 the Led Zeppelin version has been credited
to Anne Bredon/Jimmy Page & Robert Plant, and
Bredon received a substantial back-payment in
royalties
Led Zeppelin is the debut album by the English rock band Led Zeppelin. It was recorded in October 1968 at Olympic Studios in London and released on Atlantic Records on 12 January 1969 in the United States and 31 March 1969 in the United Kingdom. The album featured integral contributions from each of the group's four musicians and established Led Zeppelin's fusion of blues and rock. Led Zeppelin also created a large and devoted following for the band, with their take on the emerging heavy metal sound endearing them to a section of the counterculture on both sides of the Atlantic. Although the album initially received negative reviews, it was commercially very successful and has now come to be regarded in a much more positive light by critics. In 2003, the album was ranked number 29 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. When Rolling Stone updated the list in 2012 the album remained ranked at 29th greatest of all time |
| CHEECH AND CHONG - EARACHE MY EYE (1974)
Earache My Eye" is a comedy routine and song by
Cheech and Chong which features Alice Bowie (one of
Cheech Marin's characters).
It first appeared on Cheech & Chong's Wedding Album (1974) and later on the greatest hits collections Cheech & Chong's Greatest Hit (1981), and Where There's Smoke There's Cheech & Chong, a double-CD anthology from 2002. Cheech And Chong also lip sync to the recording (with Chong behind the drum kit) in their first movie Up in Smoke (1978). This piece is considered to be one of the greatest novelty audio pieces of all time, and has been featured repeatedly on the Doctor Demento radio show. According to Tommy Chong's autobiography, the famous guitar riff is played by Gaye Delorme, who also composed the music for the song. Additionally, Chong states that drums on the song are played by famed international percussionist Airto Moreira. The song was also released as a single in 1974, and reached #9 on the Billboard charts and #4 in Canada. In Chicago, it topped the charts at the powerful and influential Top 40 radio station WLS (AM), holding the #1 position for one week in September 1974, in the middle of an eleven week run on the station's top 40 airplay charts. The song also reached the top spot for one week on the West Coast's biggest Top 40 radio station, Los Angeles' KHJ-AM. The B-side, "Turn That Thing Down" features the remainder of the musical track, from the point of Marin's monologue about his wealth, without the actual dialogue, complete to its conclusion. It is possible to assemble the full-length version of the song by editing the two sections together. The version featured on Cheech & Chong's Greatest Hit fades out before reaching the skit as it appears on the single and the Wedding Album LP. Several radio stations refused to play the song. Once the song hit its peak on the charts, radio station managers pulled the song out of the format of airplay, due to complaints by parents, teachers, psychologists, principles, and counselors, who stated that this song mostly appealed to junkies, dropouts, drug addicts, and drunks, as well as for students playing hooky from class, giving them a bad example of behavior. Some radio managers threatened to fire their disc jockeys for playing the song on the air. |
| THE STRAWBS - SO CLOSE AND YET SO FAR AWAY (1976) Album: Deep Cuts (1976) I became a fan of The Strawbs in December 1984 at age 13 after borrowing The Best Of Strawbs cassette tape from the JS Wood Library due to their connection to my favorite band at the time Yes which they both shared keyboardist Rick Wakeman. The Strawbs would be one of the most important groups to me from 1984 to 1991 in my teenage years. I bought this album used possibly around 1985 at age 14. Strawbs (or The Strawbs) are an English rock band founded in 1964. Although the band started out as a bluegrass group they eventually moved on to other styles such as folk rock, glam rock and progressive rock. They are best known for their hit Part of the Union, which reached number two in the UK charts in February 1973, and for touring with Supertramp in their Crime of the Century Tour, doing their Hero and Heroine Tour, which drew musical similarities and themes |
| THE SUPER DUPERS - MARCH OF TARZAN (1966) Album: The Super Duper Record Of Super Heroes (1966) I bought this album in about 1979 at a flea market at John Lake School when I was in about Grade 3. This might be possibly the first record album I ever listened to and learned actual rock songs. I have always loved this entire album. I never knew what the album cover looked like as I never saw until 30 years later. The Super Dupers produced by Leon Russell. The band is a group of unnamed studio musicians that cam up with campy theme songs for a bunch of familiar superheroes and popular themes. Garage rock superhero original rock songs. | THE TURTLES - SURFER DAN (1969) December 31st 1988 - my #1 favorite daily song for 4 days at age 17 the fall after graduating high school now putting out issue #5 of my monthly fanzine called Yesterday And Today which taught the history of pop music.
The Turtles Present the Battle of the Bands is
the fifth studio album released by
The Turtles. Produced by
Chip Douglas, it was released in November 1968 by
White Whale Records. It includes
John Barbata's final recorded performances with the
band; he left shortly after its release to join
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Barbata's eventual
replacement, former
Spanky and Our Gang drummer
John Seiter, also contributed to the album. Some issues
of the album were retitled Elenore. This was a
concept album, with the band pretending to be a series
of different groups, playing in varying styles from
psychedelic ("The Last Thing I Remember") to
hard rock ("Buzzsaw") to
surf music ("Surfer Dan") to
bluegrass ("Chicken Little Was Right"). The
album peaked at #128 on the
Billboard Pop Albums chart, but its singles were
more successful. "Elenore" and "You Showed Me" both reached
#6 on the
Billboard Pop Singles chart, while "Sound Asleep"
topped out at #57.
|
| THE TRAVELING WILBURYS - LAST NIGHT (1988) Album: Volume One (1988) January 8th 1989 - my #3 favorite daily song for 8 days at age 18 taking extra classes after graduating high school last year. I got my first CD player for Christmas 1988 at age 17 the fall after graduating high school. I got a few CD's for Christmas including this my very first CD I owned. I was up to about issue #6 of my monthly fanzine on the history of pop music called Yesterday And Today that I primarily sold at Records On Wheels record store.
Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1 is the debut
album by the
supergroup
Traveling Wilburys and was recorded and released in 1988
to commercial success and critical acclaim. In early
April 1988,
George Harrison was in
Los Angeles, California and needed to record a B-side
for a European 12-inch single.
Jeff Lynne was also in Los Angeles producing some tracks
for
Roy Orbison as well as
Tom Petty’s first
solo album. While having dinner with Lynne and Orbison,
Harrison related how he needed to record a new track and
wanted to do it the next day. Both offered to help. Needing
a studio on short notice, Harrison suggested they call
Bob Dylan, who had a home studio. After dinner, George
stopped by Tom Petty’s house to pick up his guitar for the
next day’s session and invited him along too. Gathering at
Dylan’s Malibu home the following day, they wrote and
recorded the song “Handle with Care” in five hours, with all
five sharing the vocals. The track was
considered too good to be used as a B-side, so Harrison
hatched the idea to form a band and record another nine
songs for an album. The group got together again for nine
days in May, recording the basic tracks and vocals at
David A. Stewart’s home studio in Los Angeles. Overdubs
and mixing were done in England at Harrison’s home studio
F.P.S.H.O.T. (Friar Park Studio,
Henley-on-Thames).

| JEFFREY GAINES - FEAR (1992) Album: Jeffrey Gaines (1992) I won a national music trivia contest in Canada in 1992 and in the batch of prizes included a copy of this CD. It quickly became one of my all time favorites! He opened for Melissa Etheridge in 1993 and I bought a ticket so I could see him open as a solo act just him and his acoustic. September 19th 1992 - my #10 favorite daily song for 17 days in 4th year University at age 21 after moving back to grandma's house after living on my own for 5 months on Cumberland Ave during my "anorexic" stage. This entire album is deep and and serious in music and lyrical content. The song first became my #1 favorite on September 14th 1992 the month I entered 4th year University. It was the first of 2 #1 songs for me by Jeffrey Gaines. This album has returned to #1 numerous times over the years.
Jeffrey Gaines is an American
singer-songwriter and
guitarist. Born in
Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, he was signed to the
Chrysalis Records label in 1990 and released his debut
album, Jeffrey Gaines, in 1992.
The first single off the critically acclaimed Jeffrey Gaines was "Hero In Me". Gaines performed that song live on Good Morning America and the song received some radio and MTV airplay |
| CHARLIE RICH - THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GIRL (1973) hit #1
The Most Beautiful Girl" is a song recorded by
Charlie Rich and written by
Bill Sherrill,
Norris Wilson, and
Rory Michael Bourke. The country & western ballad
reached #1 in the
United States in 1973 on three
Billboard music charts:
the pop chart (for two weeks);
the country chart (for three weeks); and
the adult contemporary chart (also for three weeks)
as well as in
Canada on three
RPM charts: the RPM 100 Top Singles chart,
the Country Tracks chart and the Adult Contemporary chart.
The single stayed in a country chart for 18 weeks. Its
B-side, Rich's own I Feel Like Going Home, was
later covered by
Rita Coolidge and was released on her 1974 album
Fall into Spring.
"The Most Beautiful Girl" was also recorded by Slim Whitman in the 1970s. In 1975 ABBA singer Anni-Frid Lyngstad recorded a Swedish-language version called "Vill du låna en man?" (with Swedish lyrics by Stig Anderson) on her solo album "Frida ensam". Sergio Franchi covered the song in his 1976 DynaHouse album 20 Magnificent Songs. Country music boy band South 65 recorded an updated version of the song, titled "The Most Beautiful Girl (2001 Version)", on their 2001 album Dream Large. The song receives a – very brief – airing by Brenda Fricker in the film So I Married an Axe Murderer.
Charles (Charlie) Rich (December 14, 1932
– July 25, 1995) was an
American
country music singer and musician. A
Grammy Award winner, his eclectic-style of
music was often hard to classify in a single
genre, playing in the
rockabilly,
jazz,
blues,
country, and
gospel genres.
In the latter part of his life, Rich acquired the nickname The Silver Fox. He is perhaps best remembered for a pair of 1973 hits, "Behind Closed Doors" and "The Most Beautiful Girl". "The Most Beautiful Girl" topped the U.S. country singles charts, as well as the pop singles charts |
| THE BEATLES - SGT. PEPPERS LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND (REPRISE) (1967) Album: Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967)
"Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)" is a
somewhat modified
repeat of the opening song at a faster tempo with
heavier instrumentation. The track opens with McCartney's
count-in (retained in the manner of "I
Saw Her Standing There", the first song on their first
album); between 2 and 3, Lennon jokingly interjects "Bye!".
Starr starts the song proper by playing the drum part
unaccompanied for four bars, at the end of which a brief
bass glissando cues the full ensemble of two distorted
guitars, bass, drums and overdubbed percussion. While the
original track had stayed largely in the key of G major
(except for transient modulation to F and perhaps C in the
bridges), the reprise starts in F and features a rare
example in The Beatles' output of
modulation, to G. The mono and stereo mixes of the song
differ slightly: the former has a fractionally different
transition from the previous song, and includes crowd noise
and laughter in the opening bars that are absent from the
stereo mix.
The idea for a reprise was Aspinall's, who thought that as there was a "welcome song", there should be a "goodbye song". The song contains broadly the same melody as the opening version, but with different lyrics and omitting the "It's wonderful to be here" section. At 1:18, it is one of The Beatles' shorter songs (the shortest is "Her Majesty" at 0:23). The reprise was recorded on 1 April 1967, two months after the version that opens the album. At the end of the track, Martin's pre-recorded applause sample segues into the final track of the album, "A Day in the Life". |
| ABBA - IF IT WASN'T FOR THE NIGHTS (1979) Album: Voulez Vous (1979) Voulez-Vous is the sixth studio album by Swedish pop group ABBA, released in 1979. It was the first ABBA album to be recorded at Polar Studios in Stockholm, and the only ABBA album to include a studio recording made outside Sweden. Some of the songs were secretly written and demoed at Compass Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas, and the title track was recorded at Criteria Studios in Miami. Voulez-Vous was first released on CD in 1984. The album has been digitally remastered and reissued four times; first in 1997, then in 2001 and in 2005 as part of the The Complete Studio Recordings box set, and yet again in 2010 for the Voulez-Vous Deluxe Edition. ABBA was a Swedish pop/rock/disco group formed in Stockholm in 1972, comprising Agnetha Fältskog, Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. ABBA is an acronym of the first letters of the band members' first names and is sometimes stylized as the registered trademark ᗅᗺᗷᗅ. They became one of the most commercially successful acts in the history of pop music, topping the charts worldwide from 1972 to 1982. They are also known for winning the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest, giving Sweden its first victory in the history of the contest and being the most successful group ever to take part in the contest. |
| THE BEACH BOYS - SAIL ON SAILOR (1971) February 26th 1999 - my #4 favorite daily song for 10 days at age 28 listening to their CD box set which I had bought in 1993 while playing in Yellowknife. Performing on the road now with Marilyn for 5.5 years and now on ebay/internet for 9 months.
Sail On, Sailor" was the final song recorded for the
1973
Beach Boys album
Holland. The song was written by
Brian Wilson,
Ray Kennedy,
Tandyn Almer,
Jack Rieley, and
Van Dyke Parks.
When the Beach Boys submitted the original version of Holland to Warner Brothers in October 1972, the album was rejected by the company for lacking a potential hit single. After discussion among Warner executives, an associate, Van Dyke Parks, said that he had a tape of a song that he had co-written with Brian Wilson entitled "Sail On, Sailor." Warner then told the Beach Boys to drop what the company perceived as the weakest track, "We Got Love," and replace it with the Wilson-Parks tune. The song eventually featured contributions (some dating back from 1971) from Ray Kennedy and Tandyn Almer, and underwent some lyrical revision from Beach Boys manager Jack Rieley. Vocals for "Sail On, Sailor" were recorded in late October 1972, some time after the Beach Boys had left Holland. However, Brian Wilson was not involved at all with the song's recording sessions, leaving the basic track to be recorded by Brian's brother Carl and ex-Flame and then-Beach Boys members Ricky Fataar and Blondie Chaplin. The lead vocal was first attempted by Dennis Wilson, who sang the vocal once before leaving to go surfing. Carl was the next to attempt a vocal, but he then suggested that Chaplin make an attempt. After two takes, Carl decided that Chaplin's vocal would feature as the lead. "Sail On, Sailor" was released as a single in 1973, backed with "Only with You." However, the single only reached #79 on the singles charts. "Sail On, Sailor"/"Only with You" was re-released in 1975, and ended up charting higher, at #49. |
| THE BAY CITY ROLLERS - MONEY HONEY (1976) hit #9 May 17th 2007 - my #4 favorite daily song for 19 days at age 36 living at Eastview. Nicholas was 1 year old and Valerie and I reunited and eventually got engaged. The Bay City Rollers were a Scottish pop band whose popularity was highest in the 1970s. The British Hit Singles & Albums noted that they were "tartan teen sensations from Edinburgh", and were "the first of many acts heralded as the 'Biggest Group since The Beatles' and one of the most screamed-at teeny-bopper acts of the 1970s". For a relatively brief but fervent period (nicknamed "Rollermania"), they were worldwide teen idols. The group's line-up featured numerous changes over the years, but the classic line-up during its heyday included guitarists Eric Faulkner and Stuart Wood, singer Les McKeown, bassist Alan Longmuir, and drummer Derek Longmuir. As the group's popularity swelled to superstardom in the UK, a concerted effort was made by Arista Records (the record company that evolved from Bell) to launch the Rollers in North America. New Arista head Clive Davis was instrumental in grooming and overseeing the project. His work paid off, as in late 1975, the Rollers reached No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 with "Saturday Night", the song that had missed the UK chart completely two years earlier. The Rollers gave the track their American debut via a satellite-link performance on Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell. In Canada, it fared equally well, hitting No. 1 on the RPM national singles chart on 10 January 1976. The Bay City Rollers album (North American release only) hit No. 1 in the same chart on 7 February |
| ABBA - SO LONG (1975) Album: Abba (1975)
ABBA is the eponymously-titled third studio
album by the Swedish pop group
ABBA. It was originally released on 21 April 1975
through
Polar Music.
Following the Eurovision success of "Waterloo", ABBA saw the band gaining worldwide recognition. "I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do" topped the charts in Australia, as did "Mamma Mia" shortly after. "SOS" and "Mamma Mia" became hits in both the United States and the United Kingdom, and two of its most famous songs. The album saw ABBA dabble into reggae with "Tropical Loveland" and includes a grand pseudo-classical keyboard instrumental in the traditions of Keith Emerson and Rick Wakeman with "Intermezzo No. 1" (originally entitled "Mama"). They are also known for winning the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest, giving Sweden its first victory in the history of the contest and being the most successful group ever to take part in the contest |
| THE BEATLES - A TASTE OF HONEY (1963) Album: Please Please Me (1963)
A Taste of Honey" is a
pop standard written by
Bobby Scott and
Ric Marlow. It was originally an instrumental track (or
recurring theme) written for the 1960 Broadway version of
the 1958 British play
A Taste of Honey (which was also made into the
film of the same name in 1961). Both the original and a
cover by
Herb Alpert in 1965 earned the song
Grammy Awards. A vocal version of the song, first
recorded by
Lenny Welch, became popular when it was recorded by
The Beatles in 1963.
Lenny Welch recorded the first vocal version. It was released as a single in September 1962 on the Cadence Records label and included on his 1963 album Since I Fell for You. This version also credits Lee Morris as a writer but it is not known if it was he who provided the lyrics. This credit does not appear on any covers of the song, with only Marlow/Scott credited. The Beatles performed the song in their live repertoire from 1962, adopting Lenny Welch's adaptation, slightly changing the lyrics in the chorus. A version from this time was released in 1977 on the album Live! at the Star-Club in Hamburg, Germany; 1962. As the instrumental version by Acker Bilk was popular in the United Kingdom at the time, the song was chosen to be recorded for their 1963 debut album, Please Please Me, with Paul McCartney singing lead - this version is notable in that, during the middle eight, McCartney's vocal is double-tracked, the first of many songs in which the Beatles did so. In the US this song first appeared on the VeeJay Records album Introducing... The Beatles. The Beatles also performed "A Taste of Honey" seven times for BBC radio shows, including Here We Go, Side by Side and Easy Beat. In 1967, McCartney wrote “Your Mother Should Know” based on a line taken from the screenplay |
| TERRY HOKNES - YESTERDAY MORNING (1989) Opus #295 - age
18 I wrote my first song in 1982 at age 11 in Grade 6. Even though I was writing all the time and working and performing my own songs at home I never had a band so I didn't play any of the songs in public and I didn't have any money or materials to record proper good quality recordings. So all my demo's were quite primitive and low quality audio. I started recording in 1982 singing along with records. In 1983 I started recording my own versions of songs live on guitar and vocals along with my best friend of the time Zender Millar. In 1989 Nels Krauss and I rented a 4-track cassette recorder for the first time and I rushed through 55 songs in 7 days just to get them on tape though I didnt have any good quality microphones, headphones and knew nothing about EQ and recording levels etc. Each year my demo's would get a bit better sounding and a little more polished so to this day I don't feel I have done justice to any original songs I recorded from 1986 to 1994 when I did the bulk of my writing and recording. |
