Dreams re-entered the UK singles chart in 1988 on the back of the success of her second single (viz., "Shake Your Love," Atlantic UK A9187), eventually peaking at #11.

| GEORGE HARRISON - CAN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT YOU (1975)
Album: Extra Texture (1975) I likely bought this album used at Tramps (not sure which location) in possibly 1983 at age 12 - This has always been my favorite album by George. February 28th 1991 - my #10 favorite daily song for 5 days while celebrating George's 48th birthday at age 20. December 13th 2001 - my #4 favorite daily song for 17 days in honor of George passing away at that time when I was 30. Extra Texture (Read All About It) is the fifth studio album by George Harrison, released in 1975 following his troubled North American tour at the end of the previous year and the poorly received Dark Horse album. Extra Texture was Harrison's final release under his contract with Apple Records and EMI, and also the last studio album issued by Apple. Featuring elements of soul music and demonstrating the influence of mellow-voiced Smokey Robinson, the album was something of a departure from the more traditional rock style of his previous post-Beatle solo sets |
| SPIRIT - MORNING WILL COME (1970) Album: 12 Dreams Of Dr. Sardonicus (1970) I bought this album in February 1988 at age 17 in Grade 12 and did not know this band at all but took a chance buying this used record for $2.00 at Tramps record shop downtown on 3rd Avenue. Not only did it become one of my favorite albums of all time but also helped make Spirit the most important band to me as an adult and an influence on my own songwriting style and my 2nd favorite group ever. Spirit have now had more #1 songs on my daily songs chart than any other act ever. 19 different #1's since starting the chart in 1987. (25 years ago) They also have had the most top 10 songs than any other group during the past 25 years of my daily song charts - a whopping 120 different times they have entered the top 10 with a song. Unlike The Beatles, Yes, Klaatu, Roy Wood and others whom I liked before I started my charts, Spirit has luckily been 100% documented ever since discovering them in 1988. February 24th 1988 - my #1 favorite daily song for 6 days at age 17. March 2nd 1989 - my #9 favorite daily song for 2 days at age 18 the year after graduating. March 12th 2003 - my #10 favorite daily song for 28 days at age 32 while staying at grandmas after moving back from Dalmeny, SK before I bought my first home at Eastview. Performing with Marilyn on the road now for almost 10 years and selling on ebay for 5 years.
Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus is the fourth
album by the American
psychedelic rock group
Spirit. It was produced by
David Briggs, who is best known for his work with
Neil Young. The original LP was released in 1970 by
Epic. It peaked at #63 on the
Billboard 200 in February 1971 -- the band's lowest
charting album to that point -- and spent 14 weeks on the
chart. However, with strong catalog sales it also became the
band's only album to be certified Gold in the U.S.,
achieving that status in 1976. "Nature's Way" became
one of Spirit's signature songs, but was not a big hit at
the time, peaking at #111 on the Billboard pop charts
in 1971. In 1973, the B-side of "Nature's Way", "Mr. Skin",
also charted, peaking at #92.

| PAUL McCARTNEY - HEART OF THE COUNTRY (1971) Album: Ram (1971) I bought this album brand new possibly at Sears or Eatons in about 1983 at age 12. Unfortunately no chart data pre-1987 for learning any of Paul's albums when I originally bought them.
Heart of the Country" is a song written by
Paul and
Linda McCartney from their album
Ram released in 1971.
The song has simple acoustic tune with a heavy bass chorus, and an unusually mellow sound to the acoustic guitar that was achieved by tuning all of the strings a full step lower than standard pitch. The topic is as simple as the title, a man searching for a farm in the middle of nowhere. Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic described the song as "an effortless folk-pop tune that ranks among [McCartney's] very best songs
Ram is an album by
Paul McCartney and
Linda McCartney, released in 1971, the only album
credited to the pair. Set against the backdrop of the legal
action taking place in Britain's High Court with the
dissolution of
The Beatles partnership, following their
break-up the year before, Ram was the second of
two albums McCartney released between quitting The Beatles
and forming
Wings, whose future drummer
Denny Seiwell played on the record.
Three singles were released from Ram: the American number 1 hit "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey", the minor British hit "The Back Seat of My Car", and "Eat at Home", which appeared in Europe, Japan and Australia. The album was reissued on 21 May 2012. |
| THE MOVE - MESSAGE FROM THE COUNTRY (1971) Album: Message From The Country (1971) The Move became one of my all time favorite bands after I became a fan of Roy Wood first. My favorite album of theirs is this one which was their final album before they changed their name to "Electric Light Orchestra". I bought this album in January 1986 at Nik Of Time Record shop on Broadway and I played it non-stop upstairs in my grandparents bedroom on Taylor Street while they went on holiday. Unfortunately I had no song charts before 1987 when I learned the majority of songs by The Move. January 24th 1988 - my #4 favorite daily song for 1 day at age 17 in Grade 12.
Message from the Country is the fourth and
last album by
The Move, as well as its only album for EMI's
Harvest Records. This album has long had the reputation
as The Move's best album, although it was recorded while the
band was transitioning itself into the
Electric Light Orchestra.
Recorded in 1970–71 at the same time that The Move was also laying down tracks for the first Electric Light Orchestra album (and even during some of the same sessions), there are inevitably some similarities in style between the two albums, especially the heavy use of "tracking up" (overdubbing) to capture all of the instruments being played by Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne. Nevertheless, Wood and Lynne were determined to maintain some differentiation between the sound of their two groups (for example, by confining Wood's saxes to Message and Wood's cellos to the ELO debut). |
| ANIMOTION - ROOM TO MOVE (1989) hit #9
Room to Move" is a pop song written by
Simon Climie,
Rob Fisher and
Dennis Morgan. It first appeared on
Climie Fisher's debut album
Everything, released in 1987.
It was remade by the new wave group Animotion in 1989 and included on their eponymous third album. Animotion released the song as a single, and it reached number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. Cynthia Rhodes and Paul Engemann shared lead vocals on the song, which was featured in the 1988 science-fiction comedy film, My Stepmother Is an Alien. Animotion is a 1980s U.S. New Wave/synthpop band from Los Angeles, California best known for their songs "Obsession" (written by Michael Des Barres and Holly Knight), "Let Him Go", "I Engineer" and "Room to Move". Formed in 1983 from the remnants of a retro science-fiction band called Red Zone, they signed a record deal with Polygram Records in 1984 and made three albums. In the midst of recording their third album, Animotion went through personnel changes, as all three of the remaining founding members (Bill Wadhams, Astrid Plane and Charles Ottavio) departed. Following their departure, Ottavio and Plane married. Actress/dancer/singer Cynthia Rhodes, known for her performance as the character "Penny Johnson" in the 1987 film Dirty Dancing, replaced Plane as female lead singer, and former solo artist/Device member Paul Engemann replaced Wadhams as the male lead for Animotion's second self-titled album, informally known as "Room to Move" (due to the success of this song) to distinguish it from their first LP. By the time of this album's release, only Kirkpatrick and Smith remained officially in the "band" backing Rhodes and Engemann, and other session musicians were used during its recording. The single "Room to Move," is a remake of the 1988 song by the group Climie Fisher and was aided by its inclusion in the movie My Stepmother is an Alien, became a radio hit in April 1989, and their second Top 10 hit in the U.S., after "Obsession" in 1985; but the album itself failed to chart and Animotion broke up after that. |
| CROSBY STILLS & NASH - GUINNEVERE (1969) Album: Crosby Stills & Nash (1969) September 4th 1990 - my #3 favorite daily song for 2 days at age 19 in 2nd year University August 1st 2003 - my #3 favorite daily song for 19 days at age 32 at the time I saw them in concert for the 2nd time. I also bought my 1st home that month at Eastview. Guinnevere" is a folk song written by David Crosby in 1969. The song appears on Crosby, Stills & Nash's critically acclaimed eponymous debut album. The song is notable for its serene yet pointed melody and its unique lyrics, which compare Queen Guinevere to the object of the singer's affection, referred to as "m'lady". According to a Rolling Stone interview with Crosby: "That is a very unusual song, it's in a very strange tuning with strange time signatures. It's about three women that I loved. One of who was Christine Hinton, the girl who got killed who was my girlfriend, and one of who was Joni Mitchell and the other one is somebody that I can't tell. It might be my best song." The song also deals with the importance of freedom. The song seems to be written about Guinevere from the perspective of a man addressing a woman; it has been speculated that Crosby wrote Guinevere from the perspective of Lancelot of ancient English lore. Crosby, Stills & Nash is the first album by Crosby, Stills & Nash, released in 1969 on the Atlantic Records label. It spawned two Top 40 hits, "Marrakesh Express" and "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes," which peaked respectively at #28 the week of August 23, 1969, and at #21 the week of October 25, 1969, on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. The album itself peaked at #6 on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart |
| SPIRIT - TAURUS (1968) Album: Spirit (1968) April 17th 1995 - my #5 favorite daily song for 302 days at age 24 while on the road performing with Marilyn now for 19 months. This song is famous for being the inspiration for Stairway To Heaven by Led Zeppelin. The Beatles, Spirit and Yes are my 3 favorite bands of all time. I discovered Spirit in February 1988 at age 17 when I took a chance picking up a copy of their album 12 Dreams of Dr Sardonicus for $2.00 at Tramps record store downtown. They would go on to have more influence on my songwriting and overall varied taste in music as an adult than any other group. I discovered Spirit later than I had with The Beatles and Yes. The great thing to note is that my entire journey discovering their music has been documented from day 1 as I was already listing my daily favorite group, album and song by 1987.
Taurus" is a
rock
instrumental by
American rock band
Spirit, originally released on their self-titled
debut album in 1968. The track, composed by
guitarist/singer
Randy California, was recorded in November 1967.It has been suggested that
Jimmy Page borrowed the descending guitar figure from
"Taurus" for
Led Zeppelin's signature tune "Stairway
to Heaven".
Zeppelin opened for Spirit in an early American tour,
leaving little doubt that Led Zeppelin had heard the Spirit
song before Stairway to Heaven was written. In the liner
notes to the 1996 reissue of Spirit's debut album,
songwriter
Randy California writes:

| PAUL McCARTNEY - SINGALONG JUNK (1970) Album: McCartney (1970) I probably had this album by 1983 at age 12. I have owned a lot of copies of this album in every possible format. I have been recording albums my entire life playing all the instruments as a one man project.
Singalong Junk" is an instrumental version of "Junk"
that also appears on McCartney. Besides the
exclusion of vocals, "Singalong Junk" features mellotron
strings and the melody is played on a piano. The song also
features more prominent drums. This version of the song is
said to have been the original instrumental backing to which
McCartney was planning on singing, but he opted for a
simpler arrangement for the vocal version instead. The
song called "Junk" on McCartney's later album
Unplugged (The Official Bootleg) is played without
vocals, thereby making it "Singalong Junk", but it is not
listed as such on the album. This song has been dropped from
his live setlist, but was included on McCartney's and
Wings 2001 compilation
Wingspan: Hits and History
McCartney (1970)
is the debut solo album by
Paul McCartney. Apart from
Linda McCartney's vocal contributions, McCartney
performed (and recorded) the entire album solo. Featuring
loosely arranged (and in some cases, unfinished) home
recordings, McCartney further explored the
"back-to-basics" style which had been intended for
The Beatles'
Let It Be. The album was reissued on 13 June 2011 as
part of the Paul McCartney Archive Collection.
McCartney shot to number 1 in the United States for three weeks, eventually going double platinum. This was despite the fact that it had neither an accompanying single released nor a video clip or tour to promote it, and that critical reaction was far from positive. In the United Kingdom, it was only denied the top spot by the best-selling album of 1970, Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water, which stayed at number 1 for 33 (non-consecutive) weeks. There, McCartney debuted straight at number 2, where it remained for three weeks. |
| DEBBIE GIBSON - ONLY IN MY DREAMS (1987) Album: Out Of The Blue (1987) August 8th 1987 - my #1 favorite current top 40 hit for 4 weeks at age 16 making it one of favorite song of 1987. It was my mothers 39th birthday and it was the beginning of having a crush on Debbie Gibson for the next 2 years as she became one of the top stars of the late 80's. Starting in 1987 Tiffany and Debbie Gibson were the 2 female teen stars that everyone including me had a crush on and I had posters of both on my walls.
"Only in My Dreams" is the debut
single for American
singer-songwriter-actress
Deborah Gibson. Released December 16. 1986
as a maxi single (Atlantic
DM 86744), and then in remixed form (Vocal/3:50,
as described herein) February 1987, the song was
written by Gibson herself in 1984, two years
before she recorded it. Produced by
Fred Zarr and engineered by Don Feinberg for
BiZarr Music, Inc., mixed by
"Little" Louie Vega and mastered by
Herb "Pump" Powers, the dance-pop song
reached number four on the U.S.
Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in the
summer of 1987.
Douglas Breitbart for Broadbeard
Productions, Inc. served as executive producer.
Dreams re-entered the UK singles chart in 1988 on the back of the success of her second single (viz., "Shake Your Love," Atlantic UK A9187), eventually peaking at #11. Deborah Ann "Debbie" Gibson (born August 31, 1970) is an American singer-songwriter, record producer, and actress. In 1988 she was pronounced the youngest artist to write, produce, and perform a #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100, with her song "Foolish Beat" and she remains the youngest female to write, record, and perform a #1 single She has gone on to starring roles on Broadway and touring musicals, as well as independent film and television work. |
| BOOTSAUCE - MASTERSTROKE (1990) Album: The Brown Album (1990) I saw them front row in concert to promote the Bull album in spring 1992 at the Broadway Theatre in Saskatoon, Sk. The concert rocked and they are one of my all time favorite hard rock groups and Canadian too. I still have my Bull tour shirt that I still wear after 20 years. March 17th 1991 - my #2 favorite daily song for 11 days at age 20 living with Grandma on Taylor Street in Nanny's old bedroom. I first saw the music video on MuchMusic which led me to buy the cassette tape during 2nd year University. March 10th 2007 - my #6 favorite daily song for 17 days at age 36 while on a break from dating Valerie while promoting my rock band Orange Lucy. Bootsauce was a Canadian rock band formed in Montreal in 1989. The band received a Juno Award for their 1991 single "Everyone's a Winner". The band was composed of Drew Ling (real name Drew Thorpe) (vocals), Pere Fume (real name Perry Johnson) (guitar), Sonny Greenwich Jr. (guitar), Alan Baculis (bass guitar), and John “Fatboy” Lalley (drums). Combining soul, funk and metal sounds, the band is best known for their 1990 cover of Hot Chocolate's "Everyone's a Winner". |
| GEORGE HARRISON - BEWARE OF DARKNESS (1970) I first bought this album around 1982 at age 11. This album was #1 the day I was born on 1/15/71.
Beware of Darkness" is a song written by
George Harrison and originally released on his 1970 solo
album
All Things Must Pass. It has also been covered by
artists such as
Leon Russell,
Marianne Faithful,
Spock's Beard,
Concrete Blonde,
Matthew Sweet and
Susanna Hoffs Harrison and Russell performed the song at
The Concert for Bangladesh in 1971, and
Eric Clapton performed it at the
Concert for George in 2002. The song warns against
permitting illusion get in the way of one's true purpose, an
admonition that, like the content of "My
Sweet Lord", reflects the influence of the
Radha Krishna Temple.
"Beware of Darkness" is a ballad containing dense imagery. The song marks a return to the spiritual concerns of Harrison's songs with the Beatles such as "Within You Without You." The lyrics of "Beware of Darkness" reflect the philosophy of the Radha Krishna Temple, with which Harrison was involved, in which spiritual concerns must always override material things. In the verses, the listener is warned against various influences that may corrupt him or her. Among the potential corrupting influences are con men ("soft shoe shufflers"), politicians ("greedy leaders") and pop idols of little substance ("falling swingers"). In addition, the lyrics warn against negative thoughts ("thoughts that linger"), because these corrupting influences and negative thoughts can lead to maya, or illusion, which distracts people from the true purpose of life. The middle eight delivers the message that this "can hurt you", and that "that is not what you are here for |
| THE GO GO'S - HOW MUCH MORE (1981) Album: Beauty And The Beat (1981) I saw The Go Go's on TV on Solid Gold on January 16th 1982 the day after my 11th birthday and they became the very first current group that I liked. My mom bought me the album in early January 1982 and we went and saw them in concert that summer in Vancouver BC.. I still have the concert tickets 30 years later. I used to play with smurfs that year and they would pretend to have concerts while I listened to this album over and over. June 14th 1988 my #5 favorite daily song for 1 day at age 17 the month I finished high school. September 26th 2003 - my #8 favorite daily song for 33 days at age 32 the month I moved into my first home on my own at Eastview. Beauty and the Beat is the debut album from Californian all-female band The Go-Go's. Released in 1981 on the IRS Records label, the album was preceded by the single "We Got the Beat," which became a massive club hit in Europe and, later, the United States. When the album was eventually released, it steadily climbed the Billboard 200 chart, ultimately peaking at number one, where it remained for six consecutive weeks. The L.P. sold in excess of three million copies and reached double platinum status, making it one of the most successful debut albums of all time. It is now widely considered as one of the cornerstone albums of 1980s new wave music. It was the first, and so far the only, album entirely written and performed by an all-female band to top the charts |
| SPIRIT - POOR RICHARD (1968) Album: The Family That Plays Together (1968) I discovered Spirit in February 1988 at age 17 when I took a chance picking up a copy of their album 12 Dreams of Dr Sardonicus for $2.00 at Tramps record store downtown. They would go on to have more influence on my songwriting and overall varied taste in music as an adult than any other group. The great thing to note is that my entire journey discovering their music has been documented from day 1 as I was already listing my daily favorite group, album and song by 1987. September 24th 1988 - my #2 favorite daily song for 2 days at age 17 the fall after graduating high school. I had given this album heavy rotation only 6 months later but gave it full rotation again.l August 9th 2010 - my #4 favorite daily song for 9 days at age 39 living at Ave M South with Valerie for almost 3 years and Nicholas is now 4.
The Family That Plays Together, the second of
four albums released by the original
Spirit lineup, was marketed by
Ode Records in 1968. Unlike its predecessor,
Spirit, their self-titled and surreal debut, The
Family That Plays Together evinces more greatly the
band's ability for playing beyond the genre of
psychedelic rock than within it. Tracks "It Shall Be"
and "Silky Sam" demonstrate the ease with which the ensemble
can incorporate
jazz into their idiosyncratic form of rock, while
"Jewish" and "Aren't You Glad" evidenced the band's
competence in exploiting, to their advantage, both
world music and
jam rock respectively. "Poor Richard," "Jewish," and
"All the Same" feature glorious double track lead breaks
from guitarist California. The inspiration behind entitling
The Family was derived from the stepson-stepfather
relationship guitarist
Randy California and percussionist
Ed Cassidy shared. The album's arrangements
were created by
Marty Paich, who likewise arranged and conducted
Spirit's eponymous debut album, as well as
Model Shop (the soundtrack to a film
of the same name, which was recorded after "Family" but
not released until 2004) as well as "Clear".

JULIAN LENNON - VALOTTE (1984) Album: Valotte (1984) Of course this song became his debut hit due to being the son of John Lennon. I did immediately buy the album that late 1984 at age 13 in Grade 9. But this song is as powerful as any great Beatles classic and still love this one !
"Valotte" is a song by British singer
Julian Lennon, the title track and second single (first
single in the U.S.) from his debut album
Valotte. It was a top-ten hit single in January 1985
on the U.S.
Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in the U.S.,
peaking at number nine.
It was co-written by Lennon, Justin Clayton and Carlton
Morales and recorded at
Muscle Shoals Sound Studios in
Muscle Shoals, Alabama. The first line of the chorus,
"Sitting on a pebble by the river playing guitar", was
written by Lennon, inspired by the
Tennessee River in Muscle Shoals. The music video for the song was directed by
Sam Peckinpah

| LINDSAY LOHAN - BLACK HOLE (2005) Album: A Little More Personal (2005) My favorite power/pop girl album ever made - she had topped what Avril Lavigne had started in the early 2000's. I just love every song on this album making it one of my favorites of all time. While most would laugh at me liking music by Lindsay I defend it as the songs are all so strong, with great hooks and she had the best songwriters working on this album. October 25th 2006 - my #7 favorite daily song for 17 days at age 35 living at Eastview and now dating Valerie for 8 months sand Nicholas was 4 months old. December 8th 2010 - my #7 favorite daily song for 65 days at age 39 living at Ave M South and now married to Valerie for 3 years and Nicholas is now 4.5 years old.
A Little More Personal (Raw) is the second
studio album by American recording artist
Lindsay Lohan. It was released on December 6, 2005 by
Casablanca Records (Universal
Music). Initially titled There's Only One Angel In
Heaven, the album, produced by
Kara DioGuardi,
Greg Wells,
Ben Moody and
Butch Walker, features a darker theme when compared to
Lohan's previous album,
Speak (2004). Recording sessions took place in
several locations, including at Lohan's trailer during the
shoot of
Herbie: Fully Loaded, where she recorded the first
and only single of the album, "Confessions
of a Broken Heart (Daughter to Father)".
A Little More Personal (Raw) received mixed reviews from music critics, who praised Lohan's ambition, despite considering it a weak album. The album failed to enter on major charts, only peaking at number twenty in United States' Billboard Hot 100 and at the same position on Digital Albums. However, A Little More Personal (Raw) was certified Gold in Taiwan; after receiving the news, Lohan stated that she would promote the album touring the country. In the United States, it was also certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Lohan promoted the album in a few television appearances, including at MTV's Total Request Live, The Ellen DeGeneres Show and the 2005 American Music Awards |
| GRAHAM NASH - CHICAGO (1972) Album: Songs For Beginners (1972) September 6th 1990 - my #2 favorite daily song for 8 days at age 19 in 2nd year University.
"Chicago" is a song written by
Graham Nash for his solo debut
Songs for Beginners. As a single, it reached #35 on
the U.S.
Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The song refers to both the riots at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, as well as the trial of the Chicago Eight, where protesters at the convention were charged with intent to incite a riot. The first line of the song: "So your brother's bound and gagged, and they've chained him to a chair" refers to Bobby Seale, the defendant who was gagged and bound to a chair in the courtroom following repeated outbursts. On Four Way Street, Nash dedicates the song to "Mayor Daley". The line "Won't you please come to Chicago just to sing" refers to Nash pleading with band mates Stephen Stills and Neil Young to come to Chicago to protest the Chicago Eight trial. CSN and CSNY still play the song live. |
| PIDGEON - MILK AND HONEY (1969) Album: Pidgeon (1969) I purchased this album in February 1988 at age 17 the same day I picked up 12 Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus by Spirit at Tramps on 3rd Avenue for $2.00 each. Two of my all time favorite albums. March 20th 1988 - my #3 favorite daily song for 3 days at age 17 in Grade 12. All songs were written by Jobriath Salisbury & poet Richard T. Marshall . A blonde lass named Cheri Gage is credited with lead vocals & autoharp. Bill Strong Smith plays drums & percussion. The legendary Jobriath is credited with keyboards, guitar & lead vocals. (This LP is probably the controversial solo artist's recording debut.) The self-titled Pidgeon album has a lot of musical variety including wild Psych guitar & harpsichord on "Milk & Honey" and "Irene". Vocal harmonies abound. Some tracks are more folky/moody /introspective, while others rock. Jobriath's vocals are very distinctive throughout. |
| SEDUCTION - TWO TO MAKE IT RIGHT (1990) hit #2
Two to Make It Right" is the title of a popular song
by the American
girl group
Seduction. It appears on the group's debut album
Nothing Matters Without Love. The Music Video was
Directed by Stu Sleppin and Produced by Bob Teeman.
Released as a single in late 1989, "Two to Make It Right" reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in February 1990, remaining in the runner-up spot for two weeks behind "Opposites Attract" by Paula Abdul. The song also spent one week atop the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart in January 1990 and twelve weeks on the chart. "Two to Make It Right" contains a sample of the song "Kiss" as performed by The Art of Noise featuring Tom Jones. It also contains a sample of "It Takes Two" by Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock, which happens to contain a sample of Lyn Collins's "Think (About It)". That song is known for the section with James Brown's famous and often sampled "Woo! Yeah!" drum break. Seduction was a female dance-pop, urban contemporary, house, and freestyle trio from New York assembled and produced by Robert Clivillés and David Cole (later of C+C Music Factory), consisting of members April Harris (born March 25, 1967), Michelle Visage (September 20, 1968), and Idalis DeLeon (born June 15, 1966). Originally intended as a studio project, and prior to any assemblage of the aforementioned trio, the first track produced, "Seduction" (later renamed "Seduction's Theme"), featured vocals by Carol Cooper, and was released to dance clubs. Against its producers' expectations, it ended up becoming a hit. Envisioning a potential hit phenomenon, Cole and Clivillés set to the task of assembling a group of girls who displayed talent, sex appeal, and multiformat potential. Visage, DeLeon and Harris were chosen and assembled for the recording of the album Nothing Matters Without Love and subsequent singles. Their biggest hit came in early 1990 with "Two to Make It Right", a No. 2 pop hit. In mid-1990 DeLeon left the group and was replaced by Sinoa Loren (born December 6, 1966). After a pair of hits with this line-up, the group disbanded in 1991. |
| HILARY DUFF - PARTY UP (2003) Album: Metamorphosis (2003) January 9th 2005 - my #1 favorite daily song for 36 days including my 34th birthday. My #5 favorite daily song of 2005. I liked this album so much inspired by the Avril Lavigne girl power/pop that was so everywhere in the mid 2000's. I even went to see Hilary Duff in concert and felt a bit of a pedophile being a single man in my 30's amongst 10 year old girls. But it was interesting to see the young girls wearing more makeup and dressing more scandily than their 30+ moms.
Metamorphosis is the second studio album by
American recording artist
Hilary Duff. Promoted as her debut album, it was
released on August 26, 2003 by Buena Vista and
Hollywood Records as a follow up to her holiday album,
Santa Claus Lane (2002). According to Duff, the
album incorporates elements of pop and rock music, and it
represents changes that are specific to her life and that
everyone experiences. Duff worked with several producers on
the album, mostly notably
The Matrix, who were well known at the time for their
work with
Avril Lavigne. Others who collaborated on the album
include
Chico Bennett,
Matthew Gerrard,
John Shanks and his frequent writing partner
Kara DioGuardi.
Metamorphosis was released shortly after Duff's departure from the Disney's Lizzie McGuire franchise, and it coincided with other high profile projects in which she was involved in other media. The album received mixed reviews from music critics; some complemented it for being a modern-day bubblegum album, while others considered the album to be a promotional gimmick for the singer, lacking real substance. The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200, selling 203,000 copies in its first week, becoming the highest opening week sales figure for a debut album by a female artist in 2003. The album became the eighth best selling album of 2003 in the US, according to Nielsen SoundScan, selling 2.6 million copies in a period of five months. By late 2005, the album had sold five million copies worldwide. For Hollywood Records, Metamorphosis was the label's first high seller in several years, and led to the company's further successful cultivation of new artists and brands using the Disney Channel. |
| THE GLASS FAMILY - GUESS I'LL LET YOU GO (1968) Album: Electric Band (1968) April 4th 1988 - my #2 favorite daily song for 10 days at age 17 in Grade 12. I had found a sealed copy of this 20 year old album for $2.00 at the local trendy record shop (possibly HMV) a block east of Midtown Plaza. One of my all time favorite albums with great variety from this unknown forgotten band. April 10th 1989 - my #8 favorite daily song for 1 day at age 18 after
graduating high school. |
