| THE GOO GOO DOLLS - IRIS (1998) hit #1 (airplay) November 2nd 1998 - my #5 favorite daily song for 21 days at age 27 while traveling on the road. Upon its release, "Iris" became second of a string of hits from the film's soundtrack, City of Angels: Music from the Motion Picture. (The first was Alanis Morissette's "Uninvited" and the third was Sarah McLachlan's "Angel.") On the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 the song peaked at number nine for five weeks, and it spent a record eighteen weeks at number one on the Hot 100 Airplay chart. It was not allowed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 until after it had peaked (still managing to crack the top ten at #9) because no commercial single had been released. Although, it did debut at #9, in that issue of Billboard magazine, it states that two weeks ago, "Iris" would have been at #6 on the Hot 100. "Iris" also peaked at #8 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock and #1 on the Billboard Modern Rock charts.
Iris" is a song by American
alternative rock band the
Goo Goo Dolls. Originally written for the
soundtrack of 1998 film
City of Angels, the song was later included on the
band's sixth album
Dizzy Up the Girl. "Iris" has contributed greatly to
the band's success.
The instrumentals in the song are heavily driven by guitar riffs, mandolin, violins, and cellos, with a steady drum beat beneath. The acoustic guitar in the song gives a distinctive sound as it is in an odd tuning, with 5 of the 6 strings tuned to D. This gives a ringing effect similar to a 12-string guitar. It was the first song that the Goo Goo Dolls had been asked to write specifically for a film. Songwriter Johnny Rzeznik has been quoted as saying he broke several years of writer's block and several years of sobriety simultaneously the night he wrote this track. The song was named "Iris" by guitarist/vocalist John Rzeznik for Iris DeMent. Rzeznik found an article about her written by Daniel Levitin while flipping through an issue of Billboard Magazine, and thought she had a nice name, and thus chose it for the song title. |
| JENNIFER LOPEZ - WAITING FOR TONIGHT (1999) hit #8
Waiting for Tonight" is a song originally recorded by
American female pop trio
3rd Party for their album Alive (1997). American
recording artist and actress
Jennifer Lopez recorded a version for her debut album,
On the 6 (1999). Lopez's version was released as the
second single from her album, and also the most famous
version of the song so far, being considered one of her
signature songs.
The single peaked at number eight in the U.S., becoming Lopez's second top ten single; it also peaked at number five in the United Kingdom. Moreover, the track earned Lopez a nomination for Best Dance Recording at the 2000 Grammy Awards. A Spanish version of the song, entitled "Una Noche Más" ("One More Night"), is also included on the album On the 6. The instrumentation of "Waiting for Tonight" consists of a piano and guitar. Lopez's vocals in the song span from the lower note of Ab♯3 to the higher note of Db♯5. The song has a tempo of 112 beats per minute. Aaron Beierle of DVD Talk commented that "Waiting for Tonight" hits a "rich groove." "Waiting for Tonight" also peaked at nine in Canada, and ten in France. It was certified Silver in France by the Syndicat National de l'Édition Phonographique for shipments of 50,000 units. On the week ending October 16, 1999, "Waiting for Tonight" debuted on the Bilboard Hot 100 at 56 as the "Hot Shot Debut of the Week." As airplay and sales increased, the song rose strongly, jumping to 37 on the Hot 100 the next week with the "Greatest Gainer in Sales" title. On the week ending October 30, 1999, "Waiting for Tonight" topped the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart and jumped to 25 on the Hot 100."Waiting for Tonight" entered the top ten of the Hot 100 on the week ending November 27, 1999, reaching a new peak of nine. On December 4, 1999, the song peaked at eight on the Hot 100. It also peaked at four on the US Hot 100 Airplay Chart |
| SISQO - THE THONG SONG (2000) hit #3
Thong Song" is the title of a song recorded by
American
R&B artist
Sisqó. It was released in February 2000 as the second
single from Sisqó's 1999 debut LP
Unleash the Dragon, and was its second biggest hit.
A remixed version featuring
Foxy Brown of "Thong Song" was made exclusively for the
2000 film
Nutty Professor II: The Klumps. It was covered in
2009 by the cast of Glee, for the TV series
Glee. On 3 January 2010 Sisqó performed Thong
Song just before he entered
Celebrity Big Brother 7 as a housemate, and afterward it
re-entered the chart at number 97. The song was also
recently remixed by electronic music producer Elephantitan.
Inspired after attending his cousin Nelson's baptism, Sisqó
set out to write "The Thong Song" shortly after, adding it
to the list of singles he had already prepared for his hit
album Unleash the Dragon.
The record celebrates, in a playful way, women who wear thong underwear and bikinis. Mark Althavean Andrews (born November 9, 1978), known by his stage name Sisqó, is an American R&B singer, rapper, songwriter, dancer, record producer and actor. He is the lead singer of R&B group Dru Hill, and has also released solo material, including his successful first solo album Unleash the Dragon which included the hit single "Thong Song". Sisqó also calls himself "The Dragon". Sisqó currently resides in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada After Woody Rock left Dru Hill in 1999 to pursue a solo career, it was decided that the other three members would do the same. Sisqó's solo debut, Unleash the Dragon, was released on Def Soul Records in November 1999. Unleash the Dragon sold moderately at first, until the February 2000 release of its second single, the novelty "Thong Song". A runaway hit, "Thong Song" and its follow-up, "Incomplete", were major hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, with "Thong Song" making it to number three, and "Incomplete" going to #1. The success later got Sisqó a doll made of himself by Play Along Toys in 2001 |

| KEITH URBAN - DAYS GO BY (2004) hit #31 (#1 country)
Days Go By" is the title of a song co-written and
recorded by Australian
country music artist
Keith Urban. It was released in June 2004 as the
lead-off single for his
Be Here album, which ends with a variation called
"These Are the Days.". It became Urban's fifth Number One
single, spending four weeks at the top of the Billboard
U.S.
Hot Country Songs chart in late 2004.
Starting with an acoustic guitar phrase and then built in D major around Urban's typical up-tempo banjo/mandolin-driven riffs with exuberant vocal yelps and electric guitar fills, the song's message is a variation on the carpe diem theme, as played off the song's title phrase.
Keith Lionel Urban (born 26 October 1967)
is a
New Zealand-Australian
country music singer, songwriter and
guitarist whose commercial success has been
mainly in the
United States and
Australia. Urban was born in New Zealand and

and charted four singles in Australia before
moving to the United States in 1992. Eventually,
Urban found work as a session guitarist before
starting a band known as
The Ranch, which recorded one studio album
on
Capitol Records and charted two singles on
the Billboard country charts.
Still signed to Capitol, he made his solo American debut in 1999 with the album Keith Urban. Certified platinum in the U.S., it also produced his first American Number One in "But for the Grace of God". His breakthrough hit was the Number One "Somebody Like You", from his second Capitol album Golden Road (2002). This album also earned Urban his first Grammy Award win for "You'll Think of Me", its fourth single and the fourth Billboard Number One of his career. 2004's Be Here, his third American album, produced three more Number Ones, and became his highest-selling album, earning 4× Multi-Platinum certification. Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing was released in 2006, producing the record-setting No.17 country chart debut of "Once in a Lifetime", as well as Urban's second Grammy for the song "Stupid Boy", while a Greatest Hits package entitled Greatest Hits: 18 Kids followed in late 2007. |

A Public Affair" is a song recorded by American
recording artist
Jessica Simpson. It was co-written by Simpson and
produced by Lester Mendez, for Simpson's fourth studio album
of the same title. It was released as the album's
first
single (second overall) on June 29, 2006 by

disco influences. It samples
Madonna's song
Holiday's melody and interpolates
Marvin Gaye classic "Ain't
No Mountain High Enough". Lyrically, the song speaks
about having fun with friends.

The song reached the top ten in Canada and Ireland and made the top twenty in US, Australia and UK. | TOMMY JAMES & THE SHONDELLS - CHANGES (1969) Album: Cellophane Symphony (1969) October 12th 1987 - my #1 favorite daily song for 6 days at age 16 in Grade 12 at Nutana. I had bought this album at a record convention in Halifax, NS on our summer trip to the maritimes.
Tommy James and the Shondells are an American
rock and roll group whose period of greatest success
came in the late 1960s. They had two
No. 1
singles in the U.S. — "Hanky
Panky" (1966) and "Crimson
and Clover" (1969) — and also charted twelve other
Top 40 hits, including five in the top ten: "I
Think We're Alone Now", "Mirage",
"Mony
Mony", "Sweet
Cherry Wine", and "Crystal
Blue Persuasion".
From 1968, the group began writing their own
songs, with James and Lucia penning the
psychedelic classic "Crimson
and Clover". The song was recorded and mixed
by Bruce Staple, with James tackling vocal
duties and playing all instruments, and featured
the then unusual use of electronic gadgetry such
as
vocoders and
phasers. Later in 1968, the group
toured with Vice President
Hubert Humphrey during his presidential
campaign. Humphrey showed his appreciation by
writing the liner notes for the
Crimson and Clover album.
Further hits included "Sweet
Cherry Wine", "Crystal
Blue Persuasion", and "Ball
of Fire", all from 1969. They also produced
"Sugar on Sunday", later covered by
The Clique. As the band embraced the sounds
of psychedelia, they were invited to perform at
the
Woodstock concert but declined.

| MAINO featuring T-PAIN - ALL OF THE ABOVE (2009) hit #39 July 4th 2009 - my # favorite daily song for 36 days at age 38 living at Ave M South with Valerie married almost 2 years.
All the Above" is the second single from Brooklyn
rapper
Maino's second album
If Tomorrow Comes.... It features R&B singer
T-Pain. "All The Above" was produced by
Just Blaze (and co-produced by Nard & B), the producer
of
T.I.'s song "Live
Your Life". Both songs have similar elements including
the lead synthesizers, drum pattern, and violins but in a
different key and different chords.
In the 2009 NCAA Division I FBS football season, the Auburn Tigers football team used it as their intro song and it has now become part of their regularly played music during the games. This single is Maino's first to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. It debuted at #54 and then rose to #39 the next week and then fell out of the top fifty a couple weeks later, and then climbed back into the top fifty for another five weeks without surpassing the original peak position. It also had peaked at #10 on the Hot Rap Tracks, #59 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and #46 on the Pop 100. The single is certified platinum. |
| DEV - IN THE DARK (2011) hit #11
In the Dark" is a song performed by American
recording artist
Dev. It was written by Dev alongside
The Cataracs, who produced it for Dev's debut studio
album,
The Night the Sun Came Up (2011). The song was
released as the album's second single on April 25, 2011,
through
Universal Republic. "In the Dark" came about when Dev
wanted to make a sexy song to show that she is a grown
woman. She collaborated with American rapper
Flo Rida on an official remix as she believed she would
enjoy the remix when hearing it on the radio. "In the Dark"
is a
dance-pop song with a
saxophone hook and influences of
Eurodance and
Latin music. The lyrics emphasize
sex drives and letting sensation of touch fully taking
over from sight.
The song received generally positive reviews from music critics, who highlighted its production and the saxophone line. However, critics were divided regarding the song's lyrical content; some referred it to as sexy, while others dismissed its metaphors. "In the Dark" enjoyed commercial success in the United States, peaking at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and the summit of Hot Dance Club Songs. The song achieved its highest national peak in Slovakia, where it reached number one. Elsewhere, the song peaked in the top forty in Canada, Denmark, Ireland, Scotland and the United Kingdom. The song's music video features shots of black-painted hands that touch Dev while she is standing naked. According to Dev, the inspiration behind the video was to reflect the sexy and dark aspects of the song, and the initial idea was to create a Tim Burton-inspired feel. |

| DAVID GUETTA featuring SIA - TITANIUM (2012) hit #7
Titanium" is a song recorded by French disc jockey
(DJ)-music producer
David Guetta, featuring vocals by Australian recording
artist
Sia. Taken from the former's fifth studio album,
Nothing but the Beat, the song was written by Sia
Furler, Guetta, Giorgio Tuinfort and
Afrojack. Production was also handled by Guetta,
Tuinfort and Afrojack. "Titanium" was initially released for
digital download on August 8, 2011, as the first of four
promotional singles from the album. It was later
released as the album's fourth single in December 2011. The
song originally featured the vocals of American recording
artist
Mary J. Blige, whose version of the song
leaked online in July 2011. Originally,
Katy Perry was offered to feature on the song but turned
it down.
"Titanium" is a ballad which draws from the genres of pop, house and urban-dance. The song's lyrics are about inner strength. Sia's vocals on "Titanium" received comparisons to those by Fergie and the song was also musically compared to Coldplay's work. Critics were positive towards the song and noted it as one of the standout tracks from Nothing but the Beat. "Titanium" attained top 10 positions in several major music markets, including Australia, Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States. In the United Kingdom, it peaked at number one, becoming Guetta's fifth number-one single on the chart and Sia's first. The song's accompanying music video premiered on December 21, 2011 but does not feature appearances by Guetta and Sia. Instead, the video focuses on a young boy, played by actor Ryan Lee, with supernatural powers. |
| TERRY HOKNES - GRAVE SONG (1990) Demo Opus 654 / lyrics by
Philip Murray I wrote my first song in 1982 at age 11 in Grade 6. I would sporadically write 18 few songs over the next 4 years. Starting with my 19th song (Opus #19) I began writing on a very regular basis starting in December 1986 in Grade 11 at Aden Bowman. This included writing over 58 songs with my best friend Nels Krauss over the period of 1986-1992. I wrote 97 songs in 1987 and then 215 songs in 1988. By the time I graduated high school at age 17 I was up to Opus #268. I wrote another 178 songs in 1989. By the time I celebrated my 19th birthday I was up to Opus #524. At that time I was in first year University living in Muenster, SK in residence at St Peters College at the monastery. I met a poet from New York named Philip Murray who I collaborated with writing music to his words 91 songs in total. I wrote my 1000th song the week I turned 25 in January 1996. Even though I was writing all the time and working and performing my own songs at home I never had a band so I didn't play any of the songs in public and I didn't have any money or materials to record proper good quality recordings. So all my demo's were quite primitive and low quality audio. I started recording in 1982 singing along with records. In 1983 I started recording my own versions of songs live on guitar and vocals along with my best friend of the time Zender Millar. In 1989 Nels Krauss and I rented a 4-track cassette recorder for the first time and I rushed through 55 songs in 7 days just to get them on tape though I didnt have any good quality microphones, headphones and knew nothing about EQ and recording levels etc. Each year my demo's would get a bit better sounding and a little more polished so to this day I don't feel I have done justice to any original songs I recorded from 1986 to 1994 when I did the bulk of my writing and recording.

| THE BEATLES - ONE AFTER 909 (1970) Album: Let It Be (1970)
One After 909" (sometimes titled The One After 909
in early recordings) is a song by
The Beatles, written by
John Lennon, with input from
Paul McCartney (credited to
Lennon–McCartney), and originally released in 1970 on
the album
Let It Be. The album version is the live performance
from the
rooftop concert which took place on 30 January 1969.
This performance is also included in the
Let It Be film. The song was written as early as
1957, and is one of the first Lennon–McCartney compositions.
"One After 909" is also a more American rock-and-roll
sounding song than any of the other songs from the rooftop
show, and as a joke for the rooftop chatter, Lennon sings a
variant on the opening line of "Danny
Boy" after the song is finished that is unable to be
entirely made out.
In his 1980 Playboy interview, Lennon explained, "That was something I wrote when I was about seventeen. I lived at 9 Newcastle Road. I was born on the ninth of October, the ninth month [sic]. It's just a number that follows me around, but, numerologically, apparently I'm a number six or a three or something, but it's all part of nine

| ABBA - ME AND I (1980) Album: Super Trouper (1980) I had known this song since the album came out right in 1981 at age 10. A great anthem to close off the album. I used to use my Smurfs and Star Wars figures to pose concerts at this time and this song was likely one of the "performances". My mother bought the album in spring of 1981 but then we had an exchange named Lena stay at grandmas house for the summer and she gave us another copy of the album as a gift.
Super Trouper is the seventh studio album by
Swedish pop group
ABBA, first released in 1980. It features the No.1
singles "The
Winner Takes It All" and "Super
Trouper". The album became the biggest-selling of 1980
in the UK. Led by the international hit "The
Winner Takes It All", Super Trouper was the group's
sixth chart-topping album in the UK. It was also the
best-selling album in Britain for 1980. Super Trouper
was first released on CD in 1983 by Atlantic Records, again
in the 1980s by Polar International, and in the 1990s by
Polydor in the USA. The album has been reissued in digitally
remastered form four times; first in 1997, then in 2001,
again in 2005 as part of the
The Complete Studio Recordings
box set and as a Deluxe Edition (containing a bonus DVD)
in 2011. The previous year's divorce between Björn and
Agnetha was explored in "The Winner Takes It All", and the
members' lives in Stockholm high society circles coloured
the lyrics for "On and On and On". Other well-known songs on
the album include the hit single title track "Super
Trouper", as well as the electro-dance of "Lay
All Your Love on Me". Probably due to the disco
backlash of the time, the album saw ABBA returning to a more
straightforward pop sound, as opposed to the preceding (and
noticeably more dance-oriented)
Voulez-Vous album. The album closed with "The Way
Old Friends Do", which was recorded live a year earlier
during their 1979 concert tour.

| BADFINGER - CRIMSON SHIP (1970) Album: Magic Christian Music (1970) My friend Zender Millar had this album at his house when we grew up. It is one of the first records I ever heard around age 8 or 9. He eventually gave me the record about 10 years later but in the meantime due to the Beatles connection Badfinger would be one of the first bands I was exposed to and really loved. For a long time I said they were truly the worlds greatest "rock and roll" band. Badfinger were a British rock band consisting originally of Pete Ham, Ron Griffiths, Mike Gibbins and Tom Evans; active from 1968 to 1983, and evolving from The Iveys; formed by Ham, Griffiths and David "Dai" Jenkins in Swansea, Wales, in the early 1960s. Joey Molland joined the group in 1969, following the departure of Griffiths. Signed by The Beatles' Apple label in 1968 as The Iveys, they adopted the name Badfinger in 1969. Badfinger had four consecutive worldwide hits in 1970 and 1971: "Come and Get It" (written and produced by Paul McCartney), "No Matter What", "Day After Day", and "Baby Blue". The Ham/Evans-penned Badfinger song, "Without You", became a Billboard number one hit for Harry Nilsson. Magic Christian Music is an album by band Badfinger, released in early 1970 on Apple Records. Three tracks from the LP are featured in the film The Magic Christian, which also gives the album its title. However, Magic Christian Music is not an official soundtrack album for the film |
