GINO VANNELLI - PEOPLE GOTTA MOVE (1974) hit #22

July 3rd 1989 - my #6 favorite daily song for 1 day at age 18 the summer before entering University.

Gino Vannelli (born June 16, 1952) is a Canadian singer, songwriter, musician and composer.   Born in Montreal, Quebec, Vannelli is one of three sons (Joe, Gino, and Ross) born to Russ and Delia Vannelli. Russ, his father, was a big band musician. As a child, Gino's greatest passion was music, and he began playing percussion at an early age. By the age of 15, Gino began writing songs. Just out of high school, he signed his first recording contract with RCA under the pseudonym Vann Elli, but went on to study music at McGill University.

After a stint in New York City, Vannelli and his brothers went to Los Angeles, California in a financially distraught and desperate state to wait outside trumpeter Herb Alpert's locked gate for an audition. Alpert was Vannelli's last hope prior to heading back to Montreal the next day. Alpert liked what he heard and two days later signed Vannelli with A&M Records, releasing his first album in 1973. Vannelli's brother, Joe, served as arranger and keyboardist for most of his recording career. At a time when polyphonic synthesizers were non-existent, Joe overdubbed multiple parts to create a texture of sound that was progressive for the early 1970s.

In 1974, "People Gotta Move" made it to #22 on the Billboard Top 100. On 15 February 1975, Vannelli became the second Caucasian performer to appear on Soul Train (Dennis Coffey appeared on 8 January 1972). This was his television debut. With his records climbing the charts, Vannelli toured as the opening act for Stevie Wonder. In 1978, the song "I Just Wanna Stop" earned Vannelli an American Grammy Award nomination and was a number #1 single in Canada (#4 in United States). Vannelli's album "Brother To Brother" was certified platinum in early 1979. Vannelli won Canada's Juno Award for Best Male Artist. Vannelli also won Juno Awards in 1976 and 1979.

    GTR - REACH OUT (1986)

June 21st 1992 - my #4 favorite daily song for 6 days at age 21 after finishing 3rd year University.

GTR is the 1986 self-titled debut album and sole official studio release from the short-lived supergroup GTR. The album peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard 200 chart, and the single "When the Heart Rules the Mind" reached No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 single chart. Another single, "The Hunter," peaked at No. 85.

The group, founded by ex-Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett and then ex-Yes and Asia guitarist Steve Howe, disbanded in 1987.

The band's name, anecdotally, comes from the marking on the studio mixing console that indicates the 'guitar' volume control.

GTR were a rock band founded in 1985 by former Yes and Asia guitarist Steve Howe and former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett. In comparison to the two leaders' earlier work within progressive rock, GTR's work followed more of an Adult Oriented Rock format. The band was short-lived, lasting for two years and one album. Hackett has subsequently been strongly critical of the project, though not necessarily of the other musicians involved in it.

JANET JACKSON - BLACK CAT (1990) hit #1

October 15th 1990 - my #1 favorite daily song for 4 days at age 19 in 2nd year University.  I was in a hard rock kick at this time and this song was my favorite for a while and I even recorded a version of this song that week.

Black Cat" is the sixth single from American recording artist Janet Jackson's fourth studio album, Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814 (1989). The song was written by Jackson herself. This is one of the three Jackson songs penned by herself, including, "Whoops Now" (1993) and "Ask for More" (1998).

Unlike the R&B- and pop-infused songs that Jackson had been releasing before, this song was strictly a rock and roll production solely written by Jackson and co-produced with one of the song's guitarists, Jellybean Johnson. The song became Jackson's fourth chart-topper on the Billboard Hot 100.

Jackson has performed the song on all of her tours, including the Rhythm Nation 1814 Tour, janet. Tour, The Velvet Rope Tour, All for You Tour, Rock Witchu Tour, and Number Ones: Up Close and Personal.

Janet Damita Jo Jackson (born May 16, 1966) is an American recording artist and actress. Known for a series of sonically innovative, socially conscious and sexually provocative records, as well as elaborate stage shows, television and film roles, she has been a prominent figure in popular culture for over 25 years. The youngest child of the Jackson family, she began her career with the variety television series The Jacksons in 1976 and went on to appear in other television shows throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, including Good Times and Fame.

JEFFERSON AIRPLANE - THERE WILL BE LOVE (1975)

Album:  Red Octopus (1975)

I first picked up this album used in 1985 at age 14.

Red Octopus is a 1975 album by Jefferson Starship. It was the best-selling album by any incarnation of Jefferson Airplane and its spin-off groups, and the single "Miracles" hit #3 on the Billboard chart, being the biggest hit single the band had until that point. The album itself reached #1 on the Billboard 200.

Jefferson Starship is an American rock band formed in the early 1970s. The band has undergone several major changes in personnel and genres through the years while retaining the same Jefferson Starship name. The current Jefferson Starship, led by co-founder Paul Kantner, more closely resembles its original mix of psychedelic and electric folk music than the pop-driven tunes it was widely known for in the early to mid-1980s. It is not to be confused with Starship, a spin-off of the group featuring former co-lead singer Mickey Thomas that also periodically tours. The latter group is most frequently identified with the 1980s pop tunes of the Jefferson Starship.

JOHN WILLIAMS - JAWS (END TITLE) (1975)

July 2nd 1990 - my #2 favorite daily song for 3 days at age 19 the summer after finishing 1st year University.

John Williams has won five Academy Awards, and four Golden Globe Awards. He has also been nominated for 22 Golden Globes, winning four, and 59 Grammys, winning 20. With 47 Oscar nominations, Williams currently holds the record for the most Oscar nominations for a living person, and is the second most nominated person in the history of the Academy Awards behind only Walt Disney's 59. Forty-two of Williams' Oscar nominations are for Best Original Score and five are for Best Original Song. He won four Oscars for Best Original Score and one for Best Adapted Score (Fiddler on the Roof).

Williams has received three Emmy Awards and five nominations, seven BAFTAs, twenty Grammy Awards, and has been inducted into the American Classical Music Hall of Fame and the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame. In 2004 he received a Kennedy Center Honor. He won a Classical Brit award in 2005 for his soundtrack work of the previous year.

Notably, Williams has won the Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Composition for his scores for Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Superman, The Empire Strikes Back, E.T. The Extraterrestrial, Angela's Ashes (1999), Munich (2005), and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The competition includes not only composers of film scores, but also composers of instrumental music of any genre, including composers of classical fare such as symphonies and chamber music

THE MOODY BLUES - THE STORY IN OUR EYES (1971)

Album:  Every Good Boy Deserves Favour (1971)

My mother bought the new album Long Distance Voyager on vinyl in 1981 when I was 10.  It was one of the first "new albums" I ever listened to so I got into The Moody Blues very heavily and possibly had bought most of their early albums in around 1983/1984.  I think I bought this originally on cassette tape brand new around 1985. Unfortunately there is no chart data for my initial listens to their albums and songs when I first liked them.

The Story in Your Eyes" is a 1971 hit single by the English rock band The Moody Blues. Written by the band's guitarist Justin Hayward, it was first released as a single with "My Song" on the B-side, and then on the 1971 album Every Good Boy Deserves Favour shortly after.

On the album, "The Story in Your Eyes" is the second track, and is preceded by the track "Procession". "Procession" was the first and only song that was written by all five members of the band. The song was intended to describe the history of music from the beginning of time, and the only three words in the whole piece are "desolation", "creation", and "communication".

"The Story in Your Eyes" features a repeated electric guitar riff, a propulsive yet elegant bass line, and Justin Hayward on lead vocals, while incremental use of a Mellotron and a choral background generates an expansive, rhapsodic sound. "The Story in Your Eyes" was the Moody Blues' final single to feature only the Mellotron as it would be supplanted by the chamberlin, a similar instrument in time for their next album, Seventh Sojourn. The SACD release of the album Every Good Boy Deserves Favour contains a version of "The Story in Your Eyes" that has the Mellotron in dominant role

    MOUNTAIN - YOU CAN'T GET AWAY (1971)

Album:  Nantucket Sleighride (1971)

My mother bought their first album Mountain Climbing new in 1970 and I always had it growing up but had never listened to it until 1987 at age 16 in Grade 11.   I think it was Mountain that made me appreciate hard rock for the first time.  I picked up this CD sometime in the 90's.

Mountain is an American rock band that formed in Long Island, New York in 1969. Originally comprising vocalist and guitarist Leslie West, bassist/vocalist Felix Pappalardi, keyboardist Steve Knight and drummer N. D. Smart, the band broke up in 1972 and has reunited frequently since 1973, remaining active today. Best known for the song "Mississippi Queen", Mountain is one of many bands to be commonly credited as having influenced the development of heavy metal music in the 1970s

Mountain was received enthusiastically by the festival audience but the band did not appear in the film of the event, nor was their performance included on volume 1 of the festival's live album. Their performances of "Blood of the Sun" (from West's album) and "Theme for an Imaginary Western" (a song they planned to record for Climbing and co-written by former Cream bassist Jack Bruce) did appear on the second volume of Woodstock performances.   Soon after Woodstock, Smart was replaced by Canadian Laurence "Corky" Laing, who was the drummer on the classic Climbing!, which was released in March 1970. It led off with what became the band's signature song, "Mississippi Queen", which reached #21 in the Billboard Hot 100, and was featured in the 1971 cult film Vanishing Point, while the album reached #17 in the Billboard Top 200. Mountain began a hectic touring schedule in the middle of which they recorded a followup album, Nantucket Sleighride, released in January 1971. This album reached #16 but failed to yield a hit single. The title track was used in the UK as the theme to ITV's Sunday political program Weekend World. After these early releases the band continued to receive a certain measure of critical acclaim but never again achieved great commercial success.

MORSE CODE TRANSMISSION - FREEDOM TRAIN (1971)

Album: Morse Code Transmission (1971)

December 16th 1989 - my #5 favorite daily song for 3 days at age 18 living at the Monastery at Muenster, SK for 1st year University.   I think I bought this album at a garage sale and may have had it for a few years possibly before listening to it.   Canadian rock band.

This Quebecois band has three phases. First came the psych period under which they were known as MORSE CODE TRANSMISSION and made two psych albums in 71 & 72 sung in English. Highly collectible. The second phase saw their names shortened and with the Quebec prog explosion under way decided to switch to French singing. The three albums that followed are real gems of progressive music oscillating between GENESIS and BARCLAY JAMES HARVEST but the French texts (sometimes highly impressive) gave them a sound of their own.

TERRY HOKNES - IS THE WATER HOT (1990) Opus # ??   lyrics by Philip Murray ?

This is one features me playing a double bass solo on this jazz flavored tune about killing someone.

I wrote my first song in 1982 at age 11 in Grade 6.     I would sporadically write 18 few songs over the next 4 years.  Starting with my 19th song (Opus #19) I began writing on a very regular basis starting in December 1986 in Grade 11 at Aden Bowman.  This included writing over 58 songs with my best friend Nels Krauss over the period of 1986-1992.  I wrote 97 songs in 1987 and then 215 songs in 1988.   By the time I graduated high school at age 17 I was up to Opus #268.   I wrote another 178 songs in 1989.   By the time I celebrated my 19th birthday I was up to Opus #524.   At that time I was in first year University living in Muenster, SK in residence at St Peters College at the monastery.  I met a poet from New York named Philip Murray who I collaborated with writing music to his words 91 songs in total.  I wrote my 1000th song the week I turned 25 in January 1996.

GEORGE HARRISON - THE LORD LOVES THE ONE (1973)

Album:  Living In The Material World (1973)

I first bought this album around 1983 at age 12.  Overall it has always been one of my least favorite George albums but still some amazing songs on it.

The Lord Loves the One (That Loves the Lord)" is a song by George Harrison from his 1973 album Living in the Material World. Like that album’s title track, it was inspired by the teachings of A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). "The Lord Loves the One" has been described as the musical highpoint of Living in the Material World, but it was also the song that critics at the time would single out as an example of its parent album's "preachy overtones".

George Harrison’s relationshp with Swami Prabhupada and ISKCON − also known in the West as "the Hare Krishna movement" − dated back to December 1968, when he first met a disciple named Syamasundara Das at the Apple Corps offices on Savile Row. Das was one of a group of devotees led by Mukunda Goswami that had just arrived from San Francisco to establish a London branch of ISKCON, which would soon become known as the Radha Krishna Temple, based at Bury Place in Holborn.[3] The Gaudiya Vaishnava teachings of Swami Prabhupada, based on Hindu texts such as the Bhagavad Gita, particularly struck a chord with the youngest Beatle, whose quest for an ego-less, God-consciousness amid the false reality of Beatlemania had first taken him to India in September 1966

DAVID GUETTA featuring FERGIE and LMFAO - GETTIN' OVER YOU (2010)

September 17th 2010 - my #5 favorite daily song for 32 days at age 39 while living on Ave M celebrating 3rd anniversary with Valerie.

Gettin' Over" is a song by French DJ David Guetta featuring vocals by American singer Chris Willis from his fourth studio album One Love. An official remix titled "Gettin' Over You" with additional vocals by Fergie and LMFAO was released as the fifth single from One Love on 12 April 2010. The song became Guetta's first number-one hit in France and topped the dance charts in the United Kingdom and United States. It reached top five positions in Australia, Austria, Ireland, Italy and New Zealand.

The lyrics in "Gettin' Over You" are written by Fergie, Willis, will.i.am and LMFAO. will.i.am was originally intended to perform the vocals alongside Willis and Fergie but he was replaced by LMFAO. In an interview with Digital Spy, Guetta described the song as "one of my more traditional guitar-sounding club tracks – in the vein of 'Love Is Gone'." He said since he refused to let The Black Eyed Peas record the original version for their album The E.N.D., they decided to re-record the song with Fergie. Guetta explained, "Even after I refused to let the Peas have it, Fergie was still saying, 'I love that track!' So I said, 'If you still want to do it, then we'll do it together'. I wanted to keep Chris Willis on there because I've been working with him since the beginning [...] He's the best singer on the planet."

DEBBIE GIBSON - LOST IN YOUR EYES (1989)

Album:  Electric Youth (1989)

February 25th 1989 - my #1 favorite current top 40 hit for 6 weeks at age 18 making it my #1 favorite song of 1989.

February 27th 1989 - my #3 favorite song for 12 days at age 18 taking extra classes after graduating high school the year before.  In the late 80's Tiffany and Debbie Gibson were the 2 female teen stars that everyone including me had a crush on and I had posters of both on my walls.

"Lost in Your Eyes" is the sixth single from American singer-songwriter, Debbie Gibson, and the first from her second album, Electric Youth. Released in October 1988, the ballad climbed to number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and remained there for three weeks, becoming her most successful single. Additionally, it reached number three on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. The song was written by Gibson in late 1987 and published by Creative Bloc Music, Ltd. and Deborah Ann's Music in early 1988 (rights now administered by the Music Sales Corporation (ASCAP). A beta arrangement had been performed on the Out of the Blue Tour.

Deborah Ann "Debbie" Gibson (born August 31, 1970) is an American singer-songwriter, record producer, and actress. In 1988 she was pronounced the youngest artist to write, produce, and perform a #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100, with her song "Foolish Beat" and she remains the youngest female to write, record, and perform a #1 single She has gone on to starring roles on Broadway and touring musicals, as well as independent film and television work.

ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA - CONFUSION (1979) hit #37 and #8 in UK

I first listened to this album in about 1985 at age 14 due to the interest in Dont Bring Me Down.

Confusion" is the second song from the 1979 Electric Light Orchestra album Discovery. It features acoustic guitar and vocoder.

It was released in the UK as a double A-side single with "Last Train to London". It peaked at #8 in the UK Singles Chart. In the United States the song was released as a single with "Poker" on the B-side becoming a more modest hit, reaching #37 on the Billboard Hot 100

Discovery was the band's first No. 1 album in the UK, entering the chart at that position and staying there for five weeks. The LP contained five hit songs in "Shine a Little Love," "Don't Bring Me Down," "Last Train to London", "Confusion" and "The Diary of Horace Wimp", many of which were heavily influenced by disco (in fact, Richard Tandy came up with its well known nickname, Disco Very). "Don't Bring Me Down" would become one of their only two top three hits in the UK throughout their career (Xanadú will be number One in 1980), and also their highest-charting US single at #4. "The Diary of Horace Wimp" was also a hit single in the UK, although it was not patterned after the disco sound; instead it was closer in style to the band's earlier hit "Mr. Blue Sky." The album itself was the first ever to generate four top-ten singles (one of which was a Double A-side) from a single LP in the UK and was eventually certified 2x platinum by the RIAA in 1997.

Discovery is notable in that it was the first ELO album not to feature their resident string trio of Mik Kaminski, Hugh McDowell and Melvyn Gale, although they did make an appearance on the Discovery music videos that were created as a substitute for a live concert tour. Shortly afterwards, leader Jeff Lynne deemed the string section superfluous to his requirements and he decided to dismiss them (although Kaminski did return for the Time Tour in 1981-82, and as a performer on the 1983 album Secret Messages).

    EXTREME - HE-MAN WOMAN HATER (1990)

The unbelievable Nuno Bettencourt on guitar !

Extreme II. Pornograffitti (A Funked Up Fairy Tale) is the second album released by the Boston rock band Extreme. The title is a portmanteau of pornography and graffiti.

The album sold very well, peaking at #10 on the Billboard 200, and was certified double platinum in the U.S. by the RIAA. It is the band's best selling album. Two singles from Pornograffiti, "More Than Words" and "Hole Hearted", reached the top-5 on the Billboard Hot 100. Two other tracks, "Decadence Dance" and "Get the Funk Out", reached the lower half of Billboard's rock chart.

In 2010, after the band's reunion in the previous years, rumours started about possible commemorative shows given the 20th anniversary of the record. Finally, in 2012, initially a small string of such shows in Japan has been confirmed.

Musically, Pornograffitti is dominated by metal guitar riffs, often with funky, syncopated timing, and incendiary, high-speed metal solos. The record provided Bettencourt with widespread admiration from rock guitar enthusiasts and continual exposure in guitar playing publications such as Guitar World and Guitar School.

"More Than Words", a gentle acoustic ballad, and "Hole Hearted", an acoustic folk song, were perhaps the least representative tracks on the album, both in terms of their musical style and thematic tone.

Pornograffitti was recorded and mixed at Scream Studios, Studio City, Los Angeles, California, with producer Michael Wagener.

GEORGE HARRISON - SIMPLY SHADY (1974)

Album:  Dark Horse (1974)

I remember buying this album used at Tramps on 8th Street in possibly 1983 at age 12 - I think I may have already listened to the album by taking out the cassette from the JS Wood Library on Taylor Street earlier.

Simply Shady" is a song by George Harrison, released on his 1974 solo album Dark Horse. By Harrison's own admission, its lyrics addressed his wayward behaviour during the final years of his marriage to first wife Pattie Boyd and the allure of earthly pleasures over spiritual goals. "Simply Shady" was written in India early in 1974 and references John Lennon's "Sexy Sadie", a song inspired by The Beatles' 1968 stay at Rishikesh. On the recording, Harrison is supported by Tom Scott & The LA Express, who were Joni Mitchell's highly rated backing band at the time.

Although some commentators have claimed that he made a pilgrimage to India in early 1972, either with musician friend Gary Wright or with Pattie Boyd, according to Harrison's recollection in his 1980 autobiography, the trip to India in January and February of 1974 was his first since June 1968, when he’d returned there briefly following The Beatles’ highly publicised meditation course at Rishikesh

Simply Shady" is set in a country-rock mode, Leng writes, a "stark-sounding cut". Its "melancholic guitar/piano leads" were supplied by Robben Ford and Roger Kellaway, respectively, with Scott's sweeping horns arriving on the choruses. Apart from Kellaway overdubbing an organ part, only backing tracks were recorded on the day, states Bennett, who admits he enjoyed the visit but didn't feel they had "accomplished much musically".

    THE GO GO'S - BEATNIK BEACH (1982)

Album: Vacation (1982)

I saw The Go Go's on TV on Solid Gold on January 16th 1982 the day after my 11th birthday and they became the very first current group that I liked. My mom bought me their Beauty And The Beat album in early January 1982 and we went and saw them in concert that summer in Vancouver BC to promote the new album Vacation. I still have the concert tickets 30 years later.  I used to play with smurfs that year and they would pretend to have concerts while I listened to this album over and over.

Vacation is the second album by rock band The Go-Go's, released in 1982 on the I.R.S. Records label. The album got to #8 in the U.S. Billboard 200, and was certified gold. The "Vacation" title track was a U.S. summer smash, reaching #8 on the Billboard pop singles chart. The Go-Go's were riding high at the time of the album's first release, their future to all outward appearances looking bright. Future problems were beginning to take shape, as the members' drug use and internal fighting began to escalate.

Besides the title track, two more singles were pulled from the album at the time: "Get Up and Go" and "He's So Strange," which were minor hits in the United States. A fourth song featured on the album, the cover version of the 1960s hit "Cool Jerk," appeared as a single in 1991 to promote the band's first compilation album, Greatest. The single "Vacation" was also issued as what was perhaps the first cassette single ever

JACKSON BROWNE - THE LOAD OUT (1978) hit #20

December 25th 1991 - my #3 favorite daily song for 1 day on Christmas when I was 20 in 3rd year University and had been working on putting together a musical duo with Keith Read to perform.  6 weeks later he introduced me to his brother Kelly Read a a jam at Morleys Pub on 22nd Street and we would land up performing this song off and on for the next 20 years.

The Load-Out" is a song co-written and performed live by Jackson Browne from his 1977 album Running on Empty. It is a tribute to his roadies and fans. The song was recorded live at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland on August 27, 1977, as part of the tour in support of the album The Pretender.

"The Load-Out" describes the daily practices of a band and its road crew on a concert tour, and the emotions evoked throughout such an endeavor. The first three verses of the song consist of Browne singing and playing piano with David Lindley playing steel guitar. They are later joined by a synthesizer, followed by the rest of the band. Eventually "The Load-Out" segues into an interpretation of Maurice Williams' 1960 hit "Stay," sung by Browne, Rosemary Butler, and Lindley. It is Lindley who sings the falsetto.

Many radio stations played "The Load-Out" and "Stay" together as a medley, and, although it wasn't released as a single to the public initially ("Rosie" was the original B-side to "Stay"), "The Load-Out" charted as a tag-along to "Stay" on the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts, based on airplay. "Stay" debuted on the Hot 100 on June 10, 1978 as a sole A-side, but was listed along with "The Load-Out" on the chart beginning with the August 5, 1978 chart for eight weeks, both showing a peak at #20. "Stay" stayed on the Hot 100 for a total of fifteen weeks.

JEFFERSON - LOVE, AND ALL THE WORLD WILL LOVE WITH YOU (1969)

December 10th 1989 - my #4 favorite daily song for 2 days at age 18 while living at the monastery in Muenster,SK for 1st year University.  I had picked up a 20 year old copy of this album still brand new sealed for only $2.00 at a record shop a block from the Midtown Plaza in Saskatoon the year before.

Geoff Turton (born Geoffrey Turton, 11 March 1944, Birmingham), who also recorded under the name Jefferson, was a British singer. His musical career began as the falsettist lead singer, and rhythm guitarist of The Rockin' Berries in 1961, who scored a number of hits in the UK and Europe. The group was best known for its covers, and Turton did much of the searching and decision work as to what was to be sung.

When the group broke up in 1968, Turton started a solo career, releasing a single, "Don't You Believe It", on Piccadilly Records. It flopped, and Piccadilly head John Schroeder suggested that Turton change his name to Jefferson. The single "Montage" failed to chart, but its follow-up, "Colour of My Love", was a hit in the UK (peaking at #22 in the UK Singles Chart), and US (reaching #68 on the Billboard Hot 100), and an LP was issued following its success. A third single, "Baby Take Me in Your Arms", was not a hit in the UK, but cracked the Top 40 in America, peaking at #23 and justifying the release of a stateside album. At the time of this single's success, Turton was hurt in a car crash, and so he did not make any live appearances. After a six month hospital stay, Turton had a second record which was never released by his label and a career on hiatus in the UK. He began touring the US, where he was still able to get gigs based on the success of "Baby Take Me in Your Arms". He then secured a recording contract with Polygram Records, who released another album and a single, "I Love You This Much" (later a hit in Europe for Mouth & MacNeal).

JEFFERSON STARSHIP - RIDE THE TIGER (1974)

November 23rd 1998 - my #2 favorite daily song for 57 days at age 27 including Xmas 1998 and my 28th birthday while on the road with Marilyn now for 5 years and currently in Vancouver recording her new CD Unbridled Heart.  I had learned this song from their greatest hits CD.

Dragon Fly, the 1974 release credited to Grace Slick / Paul Kantner / Jefferson Starship, was the transitional album between the various shifting groups Slick and Kantner had been recording with, as Jefferson Airplane dissolved in the early ‘70s and the new group Jefferson Starship began. This album just missed the Top Ten and went gold within six months, selling as well as any Jefferson Airplane albums generally did. Although the single "Ride the Tiger" only rose to #84 on the Billboard charts, the album itself hit #11.

"Hyperdrive" was used in the opening ceremonies of the 1976 World Science Fiction Convention, MidAmeriCon, in Kansas City, Missouri.

JOE NICHOLS - IT AIN'T NO CRIME (2008)

April 11th 2008 - my #6 favorite daily song for 31 days a month after moving to Ave M South with Valerie when I was 37.

It Ain't No Crime" is a single by American country music artist Joe Nichols. It is the second and final single released from his CD, Real Things. It peaked at number 16 on the U.S. country chart and at number 5 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100.

The song's narrator is a man who is trying to relax, but finds himself constantly distracted by other people who try to persuade him to get married and get a job. This central character defends his relaxed lifestyle by telling his peers that "it ain't no crime".

The song debuted at number 45 on the Hot Country Songs chart dated January 19, 2008.
